I am sure there will be several games pushed back because of the heat. Friday is supposed to be around 100*.
Northern MO a front will pass through around mid day but will still be in low to mid 90s I would expect sunset (8 PM) kickoffs to abound with several water breaks.I am sure there will be several games pushed back because of the heat. Friday is supposed to be around 100*.
Those who have been attending games for awhile may remember Labor Day weekend 2011. Weather will be very similar to that. After sunset should cool off pretty fast - SCRATCH THIS the front will not arrive until after midnight. Extreme humidity will bank against it Friday evening and night sorry to say.Northern MO a front will pass through around mid day but will still be in low to mid 90s I would expect sunset (8 PM) kickoffs to abound with several water breaks.
Nowhere near the legal stuff we have today not to mention recent kid heat stroke major incidents. Count me all for the 8 PM Kickoffs and anyone who knows me knows I am nowhere near a "snowflake".Moving games back. Pfft. Back in my playing days back in the 1930s we played through the heat and a water break was an ice cube and a sodium tablet.

Not up here. Down South could be another picture.I am seeing 90 degrees high, down to 70s during game time as it stands now. No need to move anything.
Not in SWMO. 100 Friday. Probably still in the 90's at kickoff.I am seeing 90 degrees high, down to 70s during game time as it stands now. No need to move anything.
Last I looked it's showing 102 in Joplin, ick. With the dewpoints in the mid 70s it won't cool off much after sunset it will just get extremely soupy. Kind of weather where you see lots of kids coming out with cramps and whatnot in the 3rd and 4th Q.Not up here. Down South could be another picture.
Heat compressing in front of the front yes unfortunately it will be very harsh down that way. No way to predict the cramps just do the best water and electrolyte preventives and see what happens................Last I looked it's showing 102 in Joplin, ick. Electrolytic fluid amen! K+ ion in particular............Time to get the pickle juice ready! Lots of guys going down with cramps. The trainers will be busy.
Well at least all of the springfield teams will be ranked above all the 0-1 teams at 9pm.I have heard unofficially that all of the Springfield schools have moved their start times back.
Hey-o!!! NOW you're speaking my language!!!Don’t even get me started on funnel cake makers….
I hope many games get moved to SaturdayI am not sure moving the games back is even going to help much. The story isn't just the temps it's the absurdly high dew points. I watched the news in Joplin last night and most of the area at 10pm was still in the 100-110 heat index range. Dew points in some towns were as high as 88 degrees! The scale they use to illustrate dew point tops out at 75 which they describe as "soupy".
Jay, OK which is in the Joplin media market hit a 127 degree heat index yesterday setting an all time high for the state.
I know some people are going to be all tough guy "who needs water breaks, back in my day we would have moved the game to 3pm just because" but this is a very extreme heat wave.
Paying for the lush greenery and lots of rain we got in June and earlier this month! Hate to say but don't be shocked if this Heat Dome pulses back in circa Labor Day weekend.I am not sure moving the games back is even going to help much. We have two traveling to STL metro (Van Horn and the new to 11-man KIPP KC Legacy). The latter is actually going to be half hour or more past the Lou. Maybe they are overnighting there? They are moving games one hour later down here too. Since Week 1 has a lot of long road trips, this isn't going over too well.
Rumor is Van Horn is getting a forfeit win. TDW didnt have enough practices per a source. We have two traveling to STL metro (Van Horn and the new to 11-man KIPP KC Legacy). The latter is actually going to be half hour or more past the Lou. Maybe they are overnighting there?

Because basketball has to be longer than any effing season ever…and they just refuse to back it up a few weeks. (This is written by a basketball coach)I remember when football used to be a "Fall" sport. WTH are we playing in August for

Wow confessing I don't remember that. I do remember many games moving to Thursday because of the Wednesday first round of the playoffs. They also used to have games on Tuesday nights the last week of the season. Play Friday and then turn around on Tuesday. Something about State Teacher Convention I believe.
Just out of curiosity how many games did they play in a season? When did the season finish?it’s an interesting question asking about when game 1 should be played … I’m in the middle of a research project (all-time Carl Junction football scores) and I’m finding where they played week one on Sept. 19 in 1952, Sept. 18 in 1953, Sept. 17 in 1954 and Sept. 16 in 1955.
