This should be a good test for the Kearney run defense. Last week the Kearney offense looked pretty solid against a young Harrisonville team. Let’s see how this week looks. Gonna be a close one 24-21 Dawgs

Staley 28 Kearney 14

All up to the O line for Kearney. If they can't run, its over.
Can Kearney's corners and safety play with Staley? Couldn't last year.

It would seem that the NKCSD will do whatever is necessary to keep them class 5.

Well, the NKC school district has no Class 6 schools. Oak Park, Staley, NKC are Class 5. Tonka is Class 4. Plenty of boundary lines to change to keep them all C5 or below...plus, do you see any major housing developments being built to knock their numbers up?

Staley is as of now my favorite in C5. But I have Fort O and Raytown nipping at there heels very close. The 1, 2, and 3 in KC in C5 are closer then everyone thinks.

Staley and Kearney both had easy games against bad teams last week so not much of a measuring stick

Staley 35 Kearney 14

We simply know zero about the Falcons at this point. All I could take away from last Friday is it will be a loooooong year at Truman. This much, though, you can count on: they work extremely hard in the offseason and have so many out for FB they will find the pieces. That being said the ONE thing in K's favor is catching them early. Were this one Week 8 likely would've left it off Pick Em.

K won't, I assure all, control Staley's D line like last week. That is always, always a Falcons strength regardless of who is manning it. The number one thing I am hoping for is NO key injuries. I am very confident the Bulldogs are gonna have a huge year in C4 this year but 1-2 key injuries changes that altogether. Lose Connery and/or Mordecai the dropoff would be huge.

I do have another confession. I was hoping not to see this on the schedule again as I have very strong loyalties to both sides.

Staley was obviously a great team last year but Kearney no showed in that game. They looked scared and uninterested from kickoff. Surely they'll be more in to it this year, Staley is not as good as last year and Kearney "seems" to be better. Close win for the Falcons.

First year HC and staff, I think, mailed that one in after the first quarter and I frankly don't blame them. Staley was an absolute machine last year. Kearney is lots better but, once again, this is basically just a bragging rights regular season game. I told many here the true test of whether Kearney was going to be OK or drop off with the coaching changes was the next game (Platte County) which they won in OT. Still, though, have no real read on this one tomorrow night...........

This is the type of game Kearney historically wins. I think their defense will stuff the run of the crows. SH has a decent defense, but even last year with the graduation of Ross and company, they were susceptible. The real guru is calling the offense for Staley. Not that he didn't make the Staley offense 12 times better than Bouchard ever thought possible. The man is just good, but he can only do so much. If it were the other way around, I'd question the bulldogs chances. Kearney will able to run it this year. JMHO.

Kearney has PC's #, have for a while. I think PC was better than them last year, they just can't beat Kearney. I don't ever think there is a reason to mail it in, especially for a program like Kearney.

Good point. At the title game Pattonville was only the second team (Fort O was the other) who could exploit their D back weakness. I also saw signs Kearney could have a good passing game last week. It wasn't the fact the Dogs won last week but HOW that caught my attention and in a very good way. It is uncommon to see a team play like that vs. anyone Week 1 unless they are returning a ton of starters.

I still was more impressed with them in 2016. Man, oh man, what an offense that was..........

It was the first time I'd seen it. They were simply outmanned. No need to expose kids to injury etc. in a basically pride game like that so will very respectfully disagree.

PC was probably better overall than K for the past two seasons. In 2016, Kearney completely and utterly dominated special teams in their playoff game. They created turnovers, and beat a superior PC team. But K owns PC for some reason. Or maybe PC just "can't win the big one?" If not for the high force winds in the playoff last year, they beat Webb by two touchdowns.

Platte County always seems a bit bothered by the atmosphere etc. when playing at Kearney. Would say this year may be different but doubt it.

Kearney bent against PC last year, but with the game on the line they collisoned the ball carrier and shook it lose, recovered it and made PC pay. They ran it enough too. From the body language I read a real mutual dislike from both teams. So far, this has aided Kearney, and hurt PC. Bottom line, PC is softer and Kearney is not when these two square off. PC always does the hooping hollering, but Kearney talks with their pads and when they do talk it's to each other. I respect that. That's the way it's supposed to work.

Curious, who is calling the offense for Staley?

Go to a Kearney-PC game at Platte City where everyone sits on the same side. Back in 2012 I sat by the aisle separating the fans of each and it wasn't pretty.............

Cale Garrett put the smackdown on a few of them a few years ago. K is good at trucking people. Part of the youth football training.

Maybe, but I recently over heard two youth coaches discussing tackling. Hopefully the kids will do the dumb drills the coaches teach them, so they can feel safe, so they make parents happy, but come game time, maybe their first high school varsity football game, they will say screw it and lead first with their chest, face, shoulder pads and arms followed by continuous running of your feet, knocking the ball carrier back.

A few years ago I was in line @ QT behind a guy decked out in Kearney gear. He introduced himself as Kearney's HEAD coach. I said, "You don't look like Greg Jones" he stared at me for what seemed like a minute with no response and finally said "The 5th and 6th grade Bulldogs"

The little guys have won more championships than Jones' teams.
