Kansas High School Football

Living in the Kansas City area, the local TV pay a lot of attention to the Kansas side, as they should. But the news organizations that make Metro area ratings and rankings, like 810 Varsity, are obviously run by people from Kansas. As a Missouri-only follower of football, it is satisfying that the #1 team in all classes in Kansas, Mill Valley, lost to Class 5 Staley (who did not even win their district in Missouri.) They were a good team, and are still ranked #7 in Missouri overall. But the bias is just funny to watch. Missouri side fans just can roll our eyes, and then watch the Missouri vs. Kansas All star game be dominated by Missouri almost every year.

I've always wondered why they don't have a lot more "across the border" matchups like Staley- Mill Valley. I mean, it seems like only Rockhurst plays teams from KS.
It's not like top teams from CA going to Texas (like De La Salle vs Trinity) for example. We're right next door. Of course, one would think that the Missouri schools would win the majority, but you never know.
How cool would a Blue Springs vs Olathe North matchup be? Lees Summit West vs Blue Valley (insert direction here). I know everyone has some down yrs, but man, some of these games would be huge if both teams are on an upswing.

How about a couple of these games on a Saturday. Noon, 330 and 7 somewhere like Shawnee Mission North that could handle all the people.

I lived there for many years and know firsthand Johnson County KS rules KC TV. Look at the TWC Sports Channel (formerly MetroSports).............they spend more time covering now 0-11 KU than MU or anyone else by a long shot. I could care less about the rankings and know the MO schools of similar size would wipe the floor with virtually all the KC metro KS schools. One of the matchups I have been pushing is BISHOP MIEGE vs. KEARNEY. Just wish I had something resembling real pull to make that one happen.

The thing to keep in mind with KSHSAA and MSHSAA schools is that the enrollments definitely don't match up 1:1 in terms of classes. Kearney at 1,200 kids would be one of the biggest class 5 schools in Kansas.
In terms of quality (Miege not included) I think you'd find Kansas schools would compare a class down. For example, watching St. Thomas Aquinas a couple weeks ago I thought they'd match up well with a Harrisonville.

ESPN 100.7 Pittsbug KS has a one hour show called the local show where they discuss high school sports in Southwest Missouri and Southeast Kansas. They will discuss the difference in enrollments between the 2 states using Lamar Adan example. Lamar is class 2 in Missouri but would be a Class 4 in Kansas.

For football in Kansas, classes are determined by the total enrollment in the 9th 10th and 11th grades.

That's a the problem with living in KANSAS city. Everything here is geared to that side. You shouldn't name a town that's in one state after the state next door. Talk about a branding issue.

One problem is every owner of 810 WHB lives in Kansas and their kids go to Kansas schools

There will be a Sunflower League Vs. Suburban Conference week next year in week 5(MO)/week 3(KS). There will be 10 Sunflower schools matched up with 10 Suburban schools and all 10 games will be played the same week. The teams will be matched up by a committee to try to create competitive games. It should make for some exciting football in the KC metro.

Really? No way.

Really. Match ups should be completed before Christmas. I am curious about some intriguing match ups.
Could be advantageous for the fans. I hope the matchups are good, This depends largely on the committee comprised of who know's? Do you? If it's a bunch of AD/Principals it'll be fubar.

And all these yrs.... Oh well at least it's finally happening. Maybe it'll raise state pride level around the metro and we might grow some new bi-state rivalries.

Pittsburg and Webb City will start playing each other again next year. Would love to see a Saturday double header border battle at Pitt State with WC vs PHS and Lamar vs Frontenac.

Nothing more than the rumor mill...but I had heard Frontenac was one of the schools Lamar was trying to get to fill an empty slot for the next two cycles. I think they at least answered the call, but then the talks stalled. To my knowledge the only replacement to be set in stone so far is Valle at a neutral field, Lebanon I think.

The two games @ Pitt idea is great. I always thought with the way the CJ/Lamar rivalry had gotten built up these last few years it would have been awesome to keep that game on the schedule and play it @ MSSU

After all the hype about Blue Valley being the #1 team in Kansas "and" Missouri....
they lose to Derby.
So much for the 810 Top 25

So top 5 in Suburban v. Top 5 in Sunflower. Missouri goes 5-0...they better give the Kansas side a bone...because these aren't even close games.

[2015] Park Hill (Kansas City, MO) 31, [2015] West (Shawnee Mission, KS) 19
[2015] Staley (Kansas City, MO) 35, [2015] East (Shawnee Mission, KS) 19
[2015] Kearney (MO) 41, [2015] Olathe North (Olathe, KS) 21
[2015] Fort Osage (Independence, MO) 35, [2015] Lawrence (KS) 22

[2015] Blue Springs South (Blue Springs, MO) 34, [2015] Lawrence Free State (Lawrence, KS) 17

I watched that game last night. Were either of those two (Derby lost to 5A champ Mill Valley) to play CBC or Blue Springs South the results would be very, very ugly.

Mill Valley's passing game looked very solid against Staley. They had twin receivers were outstanding...Christian Jegen and Lucas Krull 6'7". They combined for over 2,000 yards as WRs. Best passing team I saw all year. Still would rank 8 to 10 as a team in Missouri.
