Let me preface by saying, I don't think any of the P5 guys mentioned are an option. From what I understand $3M is about where they're willing to go, with an exception or two. But I don't think that number gets any of the Marshall/Crean/Martin/Cronin/Underwood/Holtmann crowd there has been so much talk about. I don't think any of those guys are leaving their current jobs to tackle this job. But since you asked who I'd go after, I'd make Marshall, Underwood, and Holtmann turn it down for whatever the Bobs tell me I could spend. After they turned it down, in no real particular order...

• Eric Musselman
• Pat Kelsay
• Will Wade
• Steve Forbes

If you can't land one of those, I'd be REALLY nervous. But I think you for sure don't go deep on that list before you get a yes. And I think any of them would do a good job.

Once again, Crean's teams play NO DEFENSE what-so-ever (just outscore your opponent) and he CHOKED twice with sure-bet Final Four teams. If I were a Mizzou fan, I wouldn't want him AT ALL! Martin doesn't do much for me either. I was glad when he left MSU for Tennessee.

I'm concerned about who they will get. Seems the fan base is unrealistic about the relevancy of the program. A successful mid major coach would be a get. Don't see many guys leaving a power 5 job unless they get fired. Why would any successful mid major guy (Greg Marshall) take this job.

Just as you said! A power 5 coaching job from a mid major program! You turn it around, your go wherever you want! Coaches, as well as players, like to be challenged.

Agreed, but I guess it depends on how you define good. I think the mid-major guys I listed are certainly good. I don't, however, think they'll end up with a P5 established guy unless they're running from something (Haith). I'd almost rather see them concentrate on the best of those guys and get him. Maybe make Holtmann the pie in the sky offer, then lock in on Keatts/Wade/Muller and get it done.
