Just focusing on what it appears will happen in the next month. Not wanting to debate if it should happen or not. It appears that schools in rural Missouri will (for the most part) be playing high school football in Missouri this fall. Some in the urban/suburban areas will be; some will not. I am starting to see football preview articles pop up. Saw an article on Semoball about the Dexter HS team and their practices recently. I know teams in the Southeast Missouri region (south of Jefferson County) are conducting "practices" and/or work outs. So here is my question.
How is MSHSAA going to handle the fact that many schools will be playing and some will NOT be playing? For example, it appears to be a certainty, that the Hazelwood schools and Ritenour are OUT for football as they have opted for ALL online schooling which (according to MSHSAA) means "no sports". So if you look at last year's Class 6, District 1, that eliminates 2 schools (at least). I would guess that most schools in Class 3, District 1 will play football whereas maybe some in Class 3, District 2 or District 3 might not be able to play. Will this domino affect move some Class 5 schools up to Class 6? Will MSHSAA shuffle teams around to try to even things out or will some districts have 8 teams and others only have 4 or 5 teams in it? And do you think some athletes from the Hazelwood school district will look to transfer somewhere since their seasons are now, in effect, over?? I know much of this may be a moot point as we might not even make it to district play but just curious about the "what if we make it to district play" and they will be releasing districts around August 21 so curious what that will look like and curious what some of the more knowledgeable people on this board think about the FOOTBALL aspects of this. I know there are many more questions than answers right now but hearing these schools like Hazelwood that are going "All Online" got me to thinking about what this is all going to look like here in about a month when districts are supposed to be released.
