I watched a lot of highlights of teams down in southwest Missouri, the numbers of Kids in these programs
are incredible. Smaller schools look like they avg 50 to 60 kids in the program. Between Webb and Jopling there
had to be 150 kids dressed out. Up here in the St. Louis area and going West about 60 miles, I have looked at rosters
of classes 3, 4, and class 5. I saw at least 12 schools that had less than 28 kids in the entire program. In many classes 5
In public schools, I saw at least 10 schools with less than 38 players in the entire program.CBC, Desmet, and other private
schools for the most part have decent numbers. Example Normandy High school is playing with 25 kids and 11
are freshmen, Jennings has 27 total kids, Duborgh has 24 total kids, Bayless maybe 33, Brentwood 23, Big school like McClure has maybe 38 kids.
There are many more examples of schools with very little interest in playing Football. Not really sure why football struggles with
such little interest among boys wanting to play. Southwest Missouri has no trouble with numbers.

Here my opinion about football numbers. Does everybody forget that Public schools have Males and Females. they're are Some schools have more males and some schools have more Females. Some schools have Fall Football, Band, Soccer, Golf Etc. Another reason these St. Louis Schools have low Football numbers because the One's that Interested in football goes play for Private schools in the Area.

I went to a Class 2 school now Class 1 school in Northeast Missouri. We had about 300 kids we had about 160 males and about 140 females. We had about 35 go out for Football and about 20 males in the band.

A lot of kids in the STL area play hockey and soccer. Hockey is a sport you play all year long

75 to 80 that is a ton 90% of schools up here would go crazy if they had that many kids playing football.

St. Dominic HS in O’Fallon has had 100+ players in program the last two years (enrollment is under 1k). We’ve been fortunate to have all 3 levels of teams for 6 of last 7 years but you’re right, it’s tough to find games often times for those levels. Most teams have either a freshman team or JV team but not both so the freshman/JV schedule doesn’t reflect the varsity schedule in any way.

This has been a trend for at least the last decade. The larger private schools and top public schools have numbers enough to field varsity and junior varsity teams and some even freshman teams but a lot of medium and larger schools only have enough for varsity only.
A few schools can pull that off but a public school can’t be continually winning if players don’t get game experience as freshman and Sophomores.

Joplin and Webb probably have the two largest rosters in all of southwest mo, amd maybe by a lot, so they are not necessarily typical.

St. Dominic is doing a super job of selling their school for a great catholic education and their facilities are awesome. Rumor has it both Duchene and St. Mary's will close their schools in the next 3 years like Trinity did this year. Just look at Friday night St. Dominic beat a decent st. Charles West team easily.

I watched little of Dubourgh play John Burroughs online Dubourgh had less than 20 kids Burroughs had over 45 there was no competition, Dubourgh couldn't get back the Line of Scrimmage on most plays. Christian High drooped football, not enough boys interested in football. Probably at least 10 schools up here are on life support for football.

It seems like a culture of losing has more to do with low numbers than anything. Fort Osage , Truman and William Chrisman are all in the same town and have the same enrollments in Class 5. Fort has had a lot of success on the field over the last decade and still has around 80 come out. The other two are lucky if they can keep 40 on the team by season's end. The kids grow up actually watching the games and seeing the success and want to be part of it.
Clinton is probably the best example of the opposite thing happening.
Covid virtual school mentality on the back of concussion era definitely has carry over as well though.
