This game seems deserving of it's own thread and I'm curious about everyones take on it!
Statistically the teams are pretty even - they both score a lot (just in different ways) and hold their opponents to few. Carthage's stats may be skewed a bit by not having played Nixa yet. Joplin gave up a lot more points to Webb City. Otherwise their defense has been on par with Carthage. Carthage has functionally shut out every team except Webb City.
Joplin's offense to me seems a bit more dynamic, Wright can be elusive and make nothing into something while under pressure and on the move. Carthage defense is stout but really hasn't seen anything like this so far. Just getting pressure on Wright won't be enough - they'll have to get there lightning fast and get him on the ground and keep the targets covered up. The offense for Carthage is somewhat predictable but even so no one has been able to stop it. The O line has been potent at creating opportunities for these guys to do their thing.
Then there is the Moore situation. Whether or not he plays for Carthage he will NOT be an available target for Wright. However I was told by a carthage football parent that he IS going to play this Friday at Joplin. If that is correct it may create a few more tools in the play chest if Joplin is able to disrupt the run plays Carthage will likely want to utilize.
It's hard to guess how this will go, I could see it going for either team which is exactly the type of HS game I love. May be one of those games where you just need to be the one with the ball in the final minute...seems like a familiar story. Junge is a classic HS venue and I'm sure the atmosphere as well as the game will be fantastic regardless who comes out on top - I believe it's homecoming as well. If the eagles win and want to plant a flag on their own field I'm quite confident no one will make a stink about it! Either way I hope to see a nice "good game" lineup afterwards like we saw between Webb and Carthage a few weeks ago.
