Jon Jay. 1 year. $8 mil. With the Cubbies.

Cards21 will have to tell us what a wonderful signing this is.
I would say this is a good sign that Fowler will not be coming back. Will the Cardinals set the market again or settle for a close 2nd? Seems a little odd to me with all the young OFs the Cubs have.

Yea, I'd hate to sign a guy to hit .290 with a .340 OBP to platoon with our gold glove rookie CF.

You want to talk LULZZZZ signings? The Deadbirds gave Cecil $30 million. He sure is going to help the Deadbirds defense

It's 1 year to platoon with Almora

And Soler will be traded in all likelihood

Cecil is a year too long but the amount per year is fine. Cards had a gaping hole in the pen that he fills.

I will take the under on Jay hitting .290 and having a .340 OBP again, plus he's had trouble staying on the field. Given that it is a one year deal and he's like the 10th best position player on their roster, I don't think it matters much either way

That is just about career average numbers. And he won't be in Petco. Even if he hits .260/.330 as a lefty platoon....that's completely acceptable for the Cubs roster. $8 million to the Cubs is nothing.

Plus it really helps that he is split neutral. That fits what JM wants on his roster

He's over 30 years old and has had injury issues. Take the under on the average.

We are in agreement on the latter about it being nothing big either way given the payroll and talent of the roster

You and 3R with BA for a stat. And he's older and fatter. I'll take the under on those numbers. But totes agree, 1yr/$8M is a drop in the bucket.

HOW DARE YOU INSULT ME LIKE THAT! I've never once said such things about you

His projection is .269/.333/.360 with an 87 WRC. This was with the assumption he's in SD. Those numbers will increase slightly in the NL Central. His defense will be better as well since he doesn't have to roam the NL West stadiums.

For a platoon guy....who would rather pay, Jon Jay or Chris Coghlan? That is what it came down to for Chicago

Jay had one bad year defensively for Stl
But otherwise he was a solid player and citizen, and I liked him.

I was shocked you guys let him go, to be honest. He's not great, but you can definitely get worse.

But , so far, that move has worked for the most part.

Cards had a lot of young cheap OF (Pham, Grichuk, Piscotty) and they didn't want to dedicate resources to him since he was in the late years of arbitration. I understood it, but they underestimated their need for someone who could play CF passably.

If Grichuk can figure it out, it won't be so much of an issue. I question that happening
