Pitched his closer with a huge lead in game 6. Backfire.
Yanked out the likely Cy young winner prematurely in game 7.
Squeeze play with two strikes?
Win or lose, over managing.

I thought the same thing last night, Duck. Maddon got bailed out by the talent in that lineup.

Joe Maddon

World Series Champion

Nothing

10 minutes after "your team" wins their first championship in 108 years, you are typing my name into mosports. That, my friend, is the definition of being in someone's head. Bahahahahahahaha.

Joe Maddon.....World Series winning manager

David Ross.....world series game 7 homerun

Quack.....nothing

You always were smarter than most Goin.
You the man.
And I thank you kindly, sir. Admittedly, I hadn't watched a lot of small bear games this year other than when they played the Cards. After watching and rooting against them in the playoffs, I'm less impressed with Joe Maddon and more impressed with their depth of talent. That roster was very well constructed. Here's hoping they have a huge hangover next year...

Dude, don't be Veer. You're better than that.

But then again, moving Schwarber to the 2 hole changed the entire dynamic of the lineup
If the Cub's lil ole 3rd baseman hadn't woke up for about the last 3 games they would not be WS Champs. HE changed everything when he started hitting again, not Madden.

Noooooooo wayyyyyyyyyyy? You don't say? Joe didn't have a bat? I would have never known....

I also didn't know the lil 3rd baseman put Schwarber in front of him in the lineup, completely changing how the lineup was approached.

Neither Schwarber nor Maddon started hitting for him either. If Bryant hadn't started hitting it when he did it would been over before Maddon could attempt to give it away.

You're right. Schwarber being in front of Bryant changed nothing for Bryant. i guarantee he was pitched exactly the same.

You're a master baseball strategist, similar to Metheny.

Isn't it usually the guy hitting BEHIND you that changes the way you're pitched too? I don't know if Bryant was pitched the same or not but he did start hitting whatever they threw him MUCH better!

Schwarber had a .500 OBP. Meaning he was on base just a few times. Do you really think Bryant gets pitched the same with runners on than he does with bases empty?

Actually think about that before responding.

Well only if they wanted get him out. The way he was hitting the first few games it didn't matter. If he hadn't got hot it would have been Cleveland breaking their long WS drought. He did and it's in the books.

Francona out managed Maddon just didn't have enough horses. If he had the option of pitching Kluber in game 6 on regular rest I think they win it. One more quality starter and the tribe win. Ifs and buts I know, I know. If the cubs lost, Maddon would have been the subject to scrutiny of near Bartman level(a little drastic). Bottom line is the cubs won and Maddon giving the belief in themselves won out but he was easily outmanaged and had the more talented team. Sure wish the Cards would have given Ole Frankie a shot a few years back.... ah well
