Because last year, he had a BAbip that was crazy high. And he doesn't hit the ball all that hard. So, he kinda had lady luck on his side. Sort of like the Birds (and AC) with RISP two years ago...And I was looking for more of a fiduciary response from Nuetron. Something like 2 years is short term. And $5M per really isn't that expensive. I think I know all of this already...but not certain. I just think the Birds are paying him for 2014, and with his BAbip numbers, won't get much of a return on this two-year investment.Originally posted by 3Rfan:
Because people keep writing him off as the starter and he keeps the job anyway. Dude hit dang near .500 in the playoffs and .400 against lefties for the season. I just don't get the hate for this kid. Who else would you put out there that is on this roster?
Like 3R has been saying, they've tried to get rid of him for how many years now and he just keeps bouncing back and outplaying his competition. I think Mo just finally decided to reward him for being a good teammate. And yes 2 years and $5M isn't a lot in the grand scheme of things. If Bourjos or Grichuk could become more consistent at the plate they can still take the spot.Originally posted by Eagles_Ball:

It's cheap enough that it doesn't really stop the Cards from doing anything. There was no reason to give him the second year at that price, though.Originally posted by Eagles_Ball:
