January Meeting

Heard some talk at a basketball tournament this weekend that the proposal that will go forth is as follows
Class 6 53 teams
Class 5 53 teams
Class 4 53 teams
Class 3 53 teams
Class 2 54 teams
Class 1 64 teams
At that point, should we go back to five classes? The point of the 6 classes was to remove the 32 biggest schools from everyone else.

This would be interesting:

Class 6 would now have: Vianney, Staley, NKC

Class 5 would have:
Carthage
Fort Osage
Kearney
Battle
Carl Junction
Platte County
Ladue
Webb

I’ve heard there’s several ballot options out.
One option keeping everything as is. A second that automatically bumps Private Schools up one class. And a third that is success multiplier system that would apply for all schools based on 6 year cycles

The differentials change:
CLass 6 1.72
5 1.59
4 1.64
3. 1.44
2 1.61

You won't have Class 4 sticking up there with 1.85

Couldn't the argument be made that "Rural" Schools are growing at a tremendous pace as well as bigger districts splitting into two schools (Jeff City, Liberty etc). So what was the top 32 biggest schools when they made the switch, really isn't feasible or necessarily the best way now? For instance all of the schools around Springfield. Nixa, Ozark, Republic, Willard, Branson, etc are all growing. Nixa and Ozark were class 4 in 2008-2009. 9 years later both of those schools teetering on class 6 with Ozark being bumped this year and I think Nixa only trailed them by like 7 students. I think it is necessary to expand class 6 now.

The Carthage fans here in SWMO wouldn't like this! No more state semifinal berths for them. Won't even get out of their district.

And of course, Staley and NKC would hate this...Class 6 in KC is already a bloodbath. This just means an early exit. I'm sure the KC Class 5 and 6 lobby will vote down an expansion of C5 and C6....although I think it would be great to have Kearney and PC have to get by Fort Osage.

I would move the STL/Kansas City Private Schools from Classes 2 and 3 to Class 4.There is about 4or 6 teams at the bottom of Class 4 I consider them being class 3 Schools.

There is a show called Doctor Who. It first aired in 1963. The main character on the show is called the Doctor. Throughout the history of the show, many actors have played the character. Tom Baker, was the 4th person to do so. The Doctor doesn't "die" on the show, but "regenerates." After every regeneration, the character has a new face, body, etc. Thus, allowing for multiple actors, playing the same character

Were people dumb enough to watch a show like that?

Yes. The show ran from 1963 thru 1983 (86?). There was a reboot attempted in 1995, in the form of a made for TV movie. Then in 2005, BBC successfully rebooted the franchise. Since the 2005 reboot, the show has become one giant continuity. I think it goes without saying, I am one of those dumb people who watch the show

I have so many questions so please forgive me for being obnoxious. If you can answer even one of these questions, I'd appreciate it.

- Was "54" teams in Class 2 just a typo?

- Why 53? That's such an ugly, random number. I wonder how they'd even divide the districts up!

- This assumes that we will have 330 teams in 2019, which is definitely not going to happen. With all of the schools going 11-man now, we are at about 324-ish teams (I believe)

- Is this just building the classes from the bottom-up with the smallest 64 going to C1, the next 53 going to 6-3, and C2 being the catch-all?

How about this
Class 6 - 40 (8 - 5 team districts. Only seeds #4 & #5 play first week of playoffs - class 6 then ends same time as all other classes)
All other classes - 56 (8 - 7 team districts. #1 gets bye - no more of the dreaded #1- #8 playoff games)
That takes care of 320 schools
Less differential in class size.

Genius!

Lets just do this:
8 Man: 1-149 students
Class 1: 150-299 students
Class 2: 300-499 students
Class 3: 500-699 students
Class 4: 700-899 students
Class 5: 900-1099 students
Class 6: 1,200 and over
Same amount of classes
Keep Multiplier the same
Schools are in play-offs with about the same size schools
If 1 class is loaded up with several teams, just start play-offs week earlier and allow teams in same district that loss to play each other.
