Jamboree @ Joplin Confirmed

It could be more common than I realize, but I wonder how many jamborees consist of four teams all with state titles within the past 40 years?

While Parkwood and Memorial do have state titles when they existed...Joplin is cannot claim to be in the same class as those teams, Parkwood won two state titles in the largest class back then, Joplin has yet to be competitive in the largest class with twice the enrollment of Parkwood.

Regardless it's still an interesting group. Two current powers, the largest school in the area that was once a power and is working on a comeback, and then a smaller school with scattered periods of success currently lead by a Webb City protege. Classes 2, 3, 4, and 6 represented.

The combined records of these teams from a year ago is 45-4. Defending State Champions Webb City and Lamar have to be the favorites, at least until proven otherwise, to be in Columbia again this fall. And Seneca is loaded this year and could be the next Class 3 team to represent the Big 8 in the state finals. And Joplin, could compete with any Class 4 team. Their only problem is that they are Class 6.

So, even if it is just a practice, I'm sure the Joplin Globe will be there to cover it, and will report how many touchdowns each team scored on the other. With WC and Joplin playing each other in a couple weeks, and Lamar and Seneca playing each other a couple of weeks later, I doubt that anyone will be showing much of their arsenal.

Webb will play Seneca and Lamar
Joplin will play Seneca and Lamar
Lamar and Seneca won't play each other
Webb and Joplin won't play each other

It will be interesting to see Lamar lined up against WC, alot of people have been wanting that for a long time. I know the jamboree is pretty anticlimactic, scripted plays and straight up defenses. I always look forward to it but then it is a little boring, lol. Great to see these 4 programs on the field together either way. Scripted plays or not, I think the push at the line of scrimmage will be a good indicator if Lamar can hang with WC.

I would have loved to have seen them lined up a few teams back...

Somebody please explain why we are even wasting our time with these jamborees?

Nobody actually wants to compete or play at these things and are trying to be as bland as humanly possible. Most of the offenses that are being run in the jamborees have about the same value as taking a knee.

What's worse is that because there is a football jamboree now every other sport thinks there a real need for a jamboree, as if 30 soccer games isn't enough to figure out if you can play soccer.

Thing needs to be put out of its misery.

Not too dissimilar to NFL pre-season. It seems like the jamborees used to be a good tune up, but now teams (probably rightfully so) are so careful about 1) injury or 2)exposing themselves, that it's more or less a glorified walk through. I know smaller schools can't because of two way players, but they should just got back to soap/Gatorade scrimmages and let the offense play the defense and get on with the season
