but I'll take an ugly win any day. Especially this time of year and against the team they took 1st place away from. Hope Waino can get the series winner tomorrow and leave town with a 5 game lead and time running out on the chasers.

Yes it would. Lynn pitched better than the game looked like he did. He only gave up 1 earned run. He wasn't sharp but he did what he could minimize the damage whether it was errors made behind him or trouble of his own making with his lack of control at times. Nice to get that kind of game in the win column and move on. If the Birds play only .500 the rest of the way the Brewers or Pirates would have to have a pretty nice winning streak to catch them in less than 20 games. Hopefully the Cards will win nearly every series and not give either them a shot at making it a photo finish.

LL has been a real difference maker. He's been much better this year when things go wrong. He used to just fall apart but now it seems he can stay calm and make good pitches.

He has to be one of the most underrated pitchers in the game. The is 48-25 the last 3 years. The list isn't all that long of pitchers who have done that. His ERA is a full point better than his first two years. He's really turning out to be a good one even though he seldom gets talked about.

Looks like Shelby might be pitching for his playoff life the rest of the way because Waino, Lynn, and Wacha are in so either Lackey or Miller will be odd man out. I hope Shelby finishes strong and gets that 4th spot! Big start tonight coming off a solid start last time out. Go Birds!!!!!!!!

With Lackey's experience he'll have to really stink it up to not get a playoff spot. I think it may come down to Wacha. He had a decent 3 innings but is he really healthy and will he be able to go 80 pitches or so by playoffs. If not they may do a Wacha/Miller combo and that might not be all that bad, if Shelby can continue to progress.

Fun stuff.

oldb I agree but I am a Wacha wonk so I see this as his spring training where he gets better with each start and rolls into the playoffs with fresh legs and arm and just over powers everyone. I am such a dreamer!!!!!!!
