I am old fashioned, but unless your school has Black as one of your colors (Hazelwood W, Hazelwood Central, U. City, Lafayette as examples), your coaches should not be wearing black shirts nor should your team wear all black uniforms.

Is this just a STL problem or is it happening all over the state? Posted this on the StlToday website but no reaction, so am I just an old retired coach who always believed that your uniforms should be your school colors. White and Gray are acceptable, but for some reason I do not like the all black nor coaches for schools whose colors are say Blue and Gold and them wearing black shirts.

Let me hear your thoughts and I am back on this site to report on the STL, but really enjoy reading about the rest of the state.

Tonight is going to be awesome, high school football is back!!!

For coaches shirts to me its not that big of deal, I know some coaches chose todo this so players in the game can pick them out.

However I agree, if your school colors do not have black or grey why wear them?

Funny thing back when Joplin had two high schools Parkwood and Memorial, old Dewey disliked the colors for Parkwood so he basically didn't use them.

Seneca has Blue as one of their school colors and I don't know if I have ever seen that color on a football uniform.

I don't really have an issue with coaches wearing black but it does kind of bother me when a team has uniforms that are black if black isn't their color.

I was talking to a friend the other day who has kids in Webb and they mentioned that the district had recently said no more black/gray uniforms - only actual school colors. Football had/has grey ones and I know volleyball has black ones. I think it's kind of been a trend lately and someone in authority decided to shut it down.

The Carthage coaching staff has worn black shirts for as long as I can remember but I did happen to notice at the jamboree they were wearing blue.

Coaches do not bother me at all. Teams wearing all black stuff is annoying. I don't mind it as an accessory or something like that.

Also just remembered that MO State basketball had/have all black uniforms with white letters which I thought was terrible but maybe the kids these days like the all black or see it as a cool trend and don't really care what the actual school colors are?

Maybe they saw someone on tiktok pushing all black uniforms, that would explain it.

Black helmet

Many years ago, I wondered how the color of a helmet affected player health/comfort.

We had black helmets, but I had some old white shells (and some black shells) in the storage shed.

During a nasty August heat wave, I filled 10 x 250mL beakers with water and allowed them to sit outside overnight.

I then placed the 10 helmets (5 white, 5 black) in a row behind the endzone out of harm’s way. I alternated the helmets black, white, black, white, etc.

One water-filled 250mL beaker was set underneath each helmet. A thermometer was thrust through a hole drilled in each helmet shell with the thermometer bulb suspended in the water.

At 7:00 am, all temperatures read 82 F +/- 1 degree.

The peak temperature that day was 101 F

By 4:00 pm, the average temperature of the water in each white helmet was 86 F, while the average temperature of the water in each black helmet was
91 F.

After that season, I switched to white helmets.

Yeah...but I bet those big ole melons from those Festus farmboys looked slimmer in the black helmet. Didn't think about that, huh?

I would prefer black no mater what. Of course, my school had black in it's colors but still.
Does your last name start with an L?
I only ask because the black uniform and username make me think you are someone's little brother from a Semo area team
