possible CBC-SLUH game. Last year, the game was a blast! It almost reminded me of being back in Germany watching some of the Bundesliga games. The croud was in to the game 100%, with so much hostility. I thought it was fun. I just hope CBC can beat DeSmet, and SLUH over Fort Zumwalt South. Should be a very interesting game....

You seem very knowledgable about soccer in Missouri, who do you think will win their quarterfinal games in class 2 and then how do you think the final 4 and championships end up?

Well, I just watch a lot of it. Not so much this year since I live in Iowa now attending William Penn Univ. I am hoping to go to Lincoln in Jeff City though.

Priory vs St. Dominic:
Last year in class 2, St. Dominic completely dominated Excelsior Springs. I thought Excelsior Springs would play a bit better than that, I had expected a 3-1 St. D win. Do I think they will get to the finals this year? I don't believe they will this year. I believe you are the best team if you are undefeated. I've heard some many good things from Priory. Although I have not seen any of their games, I believe the record is impressive enough to show how well they play. The defending state champs will lose in the Quarters by a score of 2-1.

Sikeston vs Trinity Catholic:
I have no idea about these two teams. As I talked to some of my Missouri buddies, they have told me Trinity is one of the best teams in the state. Sikeston is a two time district winner. After hearing who they beat in the District Championship game, I got to thinking. I know a bit about Notre Dame, and they have a great team. Sikeston was able to pull out the stunner in the classic PK shootout. That had to be a great game. But after some research and some posts from before, I believe Trinity will win by a score of 3-2 in Overtime.

Moberly vs St. Pius X (KC):

I hear a lot about Moberly. They have a fantastic defense, and from an online newspaper, I was able to get the inside scope on how they played in the District Championship game. They won against a pretty good Fulton team by the score of 2-0. Moberly has had some impressive games to give them the 18-5-3 record. All the St. Pius teams always seem to get great teams. Many will hate me after this, but this will be my upset pick of the Class 2 tournament. I pick Moberly to win by a score of 1-0 in Overtime. I believe his name is Eric Ooton? I think he will get shut out this time, causing Pius to not score.

Cassville vs Lee Summit West:

I have no idea about either of these two teams. I have heard of some games of which Lee Summit did well. I pick 2-1 for summit.

In the semis, Trinity will beat Moberly, and Priory will beat Summit. Priory will win state because of their record, and Summit over Moberly in the 3rd place game..

Moberly will only win if the refs allow them to manhandle Ooten - they are not especially talented on defense, just extremely physical. If they get the type refs who let them get by with it, they may shut him down, particularly if he's a smaller size kid. They are not a great scoring team either, though you have to give them credit for being opportunistic, as they take advantage of mistakes, bad calls and luck to score, and often that's good enough if you can get by with the other stuff to keep a team off the board.

But if Ooten isn't hammered, Pius should beat them.

It should be a good game, either way. However, to say that Moberly isn't a good defensive team is a little absurd. According to their stats, and to their games, they have only given up 31 goals all year...in addition to shutting down Fulton (a dominant offensive team with numerous scoring threats) in their district final. Ooten has proven that he can score, 72 times, so he is obviously a game-breaker for St. Pius...if he doesn't score they don't win.

Moberly has only given up 21 goals on the season. 15 of those were to class 3 teams.....jeff city, helias, glendale, kickapoo and camdenton. And they have scored 93 goals. 93 times is an awful lot of times to be lucky.

good luck to both teams and all teams in the post season, at every level.

Re: 20 of the 93............

goals were against Mexico. 9 in one game against Kirksville (did they play them 3 times this year?) 9 in one game against Canton. Not exactly tough competition. My guess is that they scored close to half of their season total against those three teams, and they probably weren't all luck.

They had trouble scoring against teams that play with a more defensive posture.

The team that uses the whole field and plays to the corners will have the best chance of scoring. There's going to be too many bodies to attack in the center of the field, they'll need to take advantage of the corner kick sets.

A high percentage of sectional games are 1-0 games with both teams emphasizing defense and trying not to make mistakes. Don't be surprised to see OT either. Hopefully it'll be shoulder to shoulder and hip to hip without a whistle deciding the outcome.

Best of luck to both teams.

Re: 20 of the 93............

What about the year that Marshall set the state record...as I recall they played many of the same weak teams that Moberly did (they are in the same conference). So I am sure that at least 40 of their goals came in their required 4 games with Kirksville and Mexico...just an obvious point you overlooked.

Try being supportive of the NCMC team that made it to the Final Four, with many of the close games this year it could have very easily been anyone of 3 or 4 teams. Nobody is tooting Moberly's horn as if they are the God's of soccer, people are just praising their accomplishments and attributes.

Re: 20 of the 93............

You're close, the total was 30 out of 110. They even droppped 6 on Hannibal twice, 6 on Blue Springs South (JV as you like to think) and 4 or more against Helias, Warrensburg, Truman, and Moberly that season.

For the record, the 2 games against Mexico were only 4-0 and 6-0, Kirksville were both 10-0.
