I noticed they have the 2015 enrollment listed on DESE

That is the date that the numbers count... if I remember correctly from the past, schools can appeal and numbers moved slightly if some kind of mistake was made... but you have to believe those are pretty close to the numbers that will be used for the cycle that starts next year.

Note also that the charter schools enrollment does not have the 1.35 multiplier that MSHSAA mandates.

The number listed for WC is higher than the number I had heard around town this week. Is this the official number declared?

I'm not saying the numbers on the site are wrong but I would take all of them with a huge grain of salt and remember that some schools co-op with other schools and school districts In the larger cities KC,STL and Springfield are not broken down by school district.

I did just a little number crunching. I don't see Camdenton ever going back to Class 4 but I could see Carthage going back and I wouldn't be surprised if Glendale is C4 next cycle.

It does look like Monett will be C4 next cycle if their numbers are correct. Logan-Rogersville looks like they could move back to C3.

All this speculation on numbers that may not be official or correct for that matter.

Carthage likely will stay in Class 5 next cycle unless there is a significant net decrease in the number of football programs. They are saying 1368 students for enrollment here.

Which takes us back to taking these numbers with a grain of salt because the Website has Carthage with 1256.

The count from school districts is due to Dese, today Sept. 24. Schools then have a chance to appeal the numbers. Which normally doesn't occur unless its incorrect by 10+ because the number is tied to $$$. The final count is public in a couple months

1256 seems more accurate. There was an article about in the Press a week or so after class started and I think it had CHS at 1245, I can't really imagine they added over 100 students since then, but who knows. The article said it was a record enrollment for the district as a whole.

Any talk of changing the catch-all classification? Or the organization of the Classes? Class 4 teams in the low 700s going against schools with 1250...pretty big difference.

Yes there has been some discussion about changing the catch all class. The top of class 4( 1,100-1,200) is considerably larger than the bottom of class 4( 690 roughly).
Moving from 6 to 7 classes has also been discussed.

West Plains is down to 1,028 in the high school if those numbers are correct. That's almost a drop of 100 students since last cycle. And i wanna say its a drop of about 175-200 students from a decade ago.

Is Missouri too small for an Open Division? Since 2008, has had an Open Division for which all schools are eligible.

Would eight teams be brave enough to enter an Open Tournament, and miss the chance at division level glory?

Sounds like the WP kids must've moved to Carthage.

I like the sound of that. My question, if more than 8 schools wanted to enter, what would be the limiting criteria?

West Plains had a peak of 1333 in 00-02 cycle.

What about class 1?... The smallest around 90ish playing a team almost 3 times larger than them at 260ish. Yes class 4 is a large gap but that gap in class 1 with somewhere in the neighborhood of 40 or 50 boys total seems harder to overcome.

Supposed to say California.

In California they don't use a playoff system. There are 5 divisions, the Open division, divisions l,ll, and lll, and a small school division; which are all based on school population. And pretty much, a committee picks a team from the south to play a team from the north in the state championship game based on it's division. It's pretty much like the BCS system in college football.

(I know...politics involved when you have a committee pick by ranking.) But after districts...8 teams could be invited to an Open tournament. Just an idea... Would love to have seen Lee's Summit West v. Webb or Blue Springs v. LSW in the final in 2014. It also creates more opportunity for good teams to continue playing that get knocked out by the same powerhouses every year.

If you went just by current rankings, and all the teams accepted...tourney would look like this.

1. #1 CBC v. # 8 Lamar
2. #2 Webb v. #7 Park Hill
3. #3Howell v. #6 Staley
4. #4 Blue Springs South v. #5 Fort Osage.

Talk about a bloodbath. Wow. You have to admit, that would be one helluva tournament.

Most of those would be great games but.....Lamar playing CBC....that most likely wouldn't turn out well for Lamar. Other than that, I really like this idea. It would make for a really interesting and exciting tournament!

If you look at the Size of Webb's school district there is not a lot of room for growth in like housing and such. They are a pretty small school district based on square miles. I think that is why you are Seeing CJ and Carthage growing so much faster as they have large school districts. When you look at this map it is so strange as to why some school district are so large yet border a school district half that size. Jasper is larger than Webb City and Carthage combined. You would think that would make for some long days on a bus.

Webb City's district looks small on the map, but that narrow area extending north has seen some pretty heavy growth. I'm not sure if it's the relatively cheap housing, or if it's that residents actually prefer to live around Oronogo instead of Webb City. Either way, that area probably accounts for much of the district growth, not the actual town of Webb City.
