Fort Osage got SHUT OUT by Ray South and I believe Vianney got bombed by Fayetteville (AR). So who the heck is the favorite at this very early point and why?

Idk if they will beat Webb or not but I wouldn't be suprised either way . Last year I felt like it was the best team Webb played ( including Ladue who beat them) but they didn't lose much at all. Their numbers aren't real high but they are really good . If they stay healthy then good luck beating them

Looking some stuff over tonight plus my preseason notes I am going perhaps a bit "outside the box" and will say JACKSON. At this point a Jackson-Carthage semi would seem almost prohibitively likely..............

Can promise you right now the Jackson will surprise a lot of people this season. Their schedule isn't the toughest but they're even better than last season with a high emphasis on returning all-staters. Outscored Class 5 Webster Groves 41-0 before halftime and the quarterback didn't see a second-half snap.

On the East side of the state in class 5 it will be Eureka and Jackson. On the west I only really know of Carthage as being a legit threat at winning it all. Just off my knowledge, those three teams should be the favorite.

Jackson looks to be strong again this year, I wish that their non conference schedule was more competitive. But in the end you have to beat the team on the field with you. Also, is Chaminade in the same district as Eureka? I look for them to be good also. It's only week 1. Lots of good football to be played.

Chaminade moved to District Three, meaning that they're now on the opposite side of the bracket as Jackson and Eureka, as well as Carthage. They defeated Belleville East by a nice handful so it's not crazy talk to put them in the playoff picture as well.

Raytown's debut was questionable but will have to let more games play out before making any judgement. Can take ZERO away from Staley's win over Truman last night.

I heard that Raytown moved down to Class 4 and could've sworn I'd seen it on MSHSAA's site. Does anybody know if it was a mistake or am I just crazy?

They moved them back up and exchanged with Belton last Monday I believe.

Vianney is not going to be that good. I still think Eureka will be very good, and Chaminade might make some noise.

Questionable? Do you even football? They beat a good class 6 football team, got down and fought back. I would say their slow start was due to nerves and nothing more. They pulled it together proved they should be the favorite in class 5.

BSS was 3-8 last year. They lost some of their best players from that squad and are young this year. They’re almost a lock to go 2-7 in the regular season this year.

If people are skeptical about Raytown having “proved they should be the favorite in Class 5” after narrowly escaping with a win on Friday, it might be because people remember how last year ended.
