Just curious what everyone thinks. Personally I think 5 years would be the time if progress isn't made in the program should look elsewhere.

College? Five years because of the numbers involved unless things aren't improving or are actually worse than the previous coach after year three. High School? Who knows?!?! What's the talent level? Expectations? Tradition? etc.

Well JRod got for sale signs in his second year,,,,and that was after an undefeated State Championship season.

You go 5-5 around here better be lookin

Is this a Barry Odom question? We'll know after two seasons - the result has been horrible & barring some recruiting miracles, he has to go now. With Kim Anderson, one year was enough to see that he wasn't ready to be the HC of a major college BB program.

As a general rule, with a HS program, I'd say 4 years; getting their first freshmen class thru the system. With a college or certain HS programs, where recruiting is crucial, the leash should be shorter.

In Odom's case, he's made enough blunders that he has to go for the sake of the program. I still think he may turn out to be a good HC, but this has been a learning experience for him - let him go to a smaller school and apply the lessons learned.

20 minutes....then break out the torches and pitchforks.
I like your line of thought there. After Nickerson lost us Ampipes biggest game, I gathered the townsfolk and we all headed to his house. It took WAY longer than 20 minutes though. It was an away game and the drive to Walnut Heights isnt short. But when we all got back to Ampipe, boy oh boy did we TRASH his house! Even a player or two helped out. Thats the quickest way to run a head coach out of town.

It's all relative. In high school, there are places that are not going to get great candidates when they have an opening. Is the guy you've got better than the guy you might get? I've seen instances in recent years where a (usually small rural) school gets tired of their guy, they can him, and the applicants are non-existent or unqualified. I think the situation is different everywhere.

How long was Coach Nickerson at Ampipe?

I am pretty sure Coach left on his own to take the Cal-Poly Job.

Four years. And that is only if you win a state championship. It should not matter how good of a teacher you are or how good of a person you are either. Win or go home.
(sarcasm)....

Depends on what kind of a team you take over. If JRod quit, I would think one year would be sufficient but 2 would be appropriate.
