He didn't need to package any players to get a three hitter or improve the defense in any way. He instead fortified our bullpen with Duke and Jerome Freakin Williams.
How's it working?

But, but, but we're leading the NL in HR's and near the top in runs scored. Ain't it fun to watch those HR's fly out of the park when we're 14 games out in August. If we only had one more HR hitter we might only be 12 games out! I figure Waino is next for the DL, there is something wrong with him he ain't tellin. We'll see what the rookie can do in his first start, which they were wise enough to make happen at Wrigley Field.

You didn't answer the question, Scout.

I didn't think you were really asking that question, just complaining like the rest of us do about whatever we complain about any given day. Now I guess you can answer my question about how much fun it is watching all the HR's the Bird's are hitting. Lack of HR hitters has been your biggest complaint all season, even though they have been at or near the top of that list all season. Once again I'll point out that OFFENSE has NOT been the issue for this year's team! Pitching, defense and the inability to win at home has been the the issue. IF this team would have found a way to win at a pace anywhere near teams of the past few years they would be right in the middle of this race.

My question was how do you think Mo has done this year at making moves to improve the team? That's all. Do you think the team is well constructed? Not looking for an argument.

Offense isn't the issue. Starting pitching (then the bullpen imploded when the starters had the good run immediately prior to and after the ASB), defense, and base running has been brutally bad. And the underlying issue has been the injuries. Marp/Moss/Peralta, then Diaz when those guys got healthy, and lastly Holliday. The depth of this roster has made this team at least somewhat capable of absorbing that and continuing to score runs. I'd say MO's job has been done pretty well. My complaint is how MM has "managed" the bullpen and the lineups. It's almost like all of the depth and options just creates too much confusion for him. And it only gets worse as the game plays out.

The bullpen was (and probably still is the issue), and Duke helped that. Sort of. But instead of using him as a LOOGY, MM runs him out there against righties far too often. Honestly, with Seigrest, Oh, Maness (who seems to be back to his good form now), Bowman, and Duke...the pen should be fine. If the damned manager and starters would actually hold up their end of the bargain. Wouldn't hurt for Broxton to remember how to not hang a slider too.

A lot of people complain about MM but I think Mo needs to go
facepalm

The defense had been very bad. The starting pitching has turned sour.

I don't really agree that offense isn't an issue. Baserunning is a huge part of offense. Consistency is also important.
Scoring a bunch against bad pitching can skew things.

The #3 hitter is hitting .180 at home. FOR THE SEASON. That kills you and is a huge part of our home record. Diaz was a total shock for the entire organization. Our starting SS not named Diaz are collectively hitting under .200. Grichuk has been hideous. Wong has been a total flop.
Adams has stunk. These are our "highly touted" prospects. Peralta is hardly even a threat at the plate. Tell me which of those guys you are counting on for 2017.

Gyorko and Moss have completely overachieved and have saved the team on many occasions. Are they the future?

Their HR's have NOT just come against bad teams. Base running in general has not been good but part of the base running issue has been a 3rd base coach sending runners who are not fast only to have them thrown out by 10 or 15 feet. This team is waaaay up the chain in offense and I'm quite sure other teams pump up their offensive totals against bad team/pitchers too. They all play the same teams. Moss is doing exactly what he was brought here to do, but was not healthy last season. When did we decide this was conversation about the future? You wanted more HR hitters this year and HR's have NOT been a problem this year.

You still haven't answered my question.

What is the STL record at home?
What is Holliday hitting at home?
What team can win consistently with
a #3 hitter batting less than .200.

I didn't say I had the answers, only that offense is very good compared to anybody else in the league even with a #3 guy not hitting at home. Another HR guy would not have made things much better, he would only be taking the place of someone that already hits some HR's. Why Holliday can't hit at Busch this year and why the team can't win more there is beyond me. Pitching has not been good from the pen and the starters at the same time. They can't seem to lift each other up very often. Defense has made the pitchers get extra outs on many occasions but the good ones have to overcome that.

It doesn't help that the 3 most consistent hitters in the lineup have been on the DL, are on the DL, and/or slumping. Diaz, while a surprise, as been one of the most consistent offensive players for the Cardinals all year, though poor defensively and baserunning. Piscotty has been what they have talked about, a consistent batter with a great knowledge of the zone, that is a battle at the plate. It stings that he is in his first true funk, but he still finds ways to be tough out. Carp is Carp. Still, with Piscotty his consistency amazes me because he has no idea where he will be in the lineup. 1-5 all have their different roles. As for the bullpen moves, the Cards money is in dwindling veterans and we should have made better moves to get solid bullpen help and a proven starter (not a career #4 like Leake). Holliday should be traded to a American League team. He is washed up and we can't rely on Moss to have years like he's had this year. This is a career year for him. Mo relies on his young talent too much and that has hurt the consistency all year.

(Don't forget about the mastery of Oquendo not being in the third base coaching box.)

A lot of good points. They need to have a cordial departure by Holliday.

I have liked Holliday, but he is just starting to dwindle in his production. He would be a great 4th outfielder or DH for an American League team. Most people forget that he was a 3rd baseman with the Rockies, but because he was a terrible fielder he was moved to the Left. It just stinks because we will not get much for him now.

I don't see Peralta coming back unless he catches fire in the next 6 weeks.

Is this his third year or 4th year of his contract? I think he has a year left, which stinks, because they have some young infielders that could compete for his spot in minors.
Or just let Gyorko play 3rd on a regular basis with Carp at 2nd.
