I was there and it was a great game, one of the best I saw all year. And I saw a lot of games. Lol.
I didn't feel like Rolla played bad or anything, far from it. They probably didn't shoot as well as they did against Borgia, but Hillcrest was a more athletic team than Borgia. Hillcrest struggled keeping the two Wands kids out of the paint, but did a much better job contesting the 3-point line and shots in the lane after they drove than Borgia did.
Honestly, Hillcrest won the game more than Rolla lost it. The Hornets had IMO the best player on the court in Brady Petry and he had a heck of a game, including the game winner. Finished with 32 and 12, and had just nine at the half.
Junior Lavell Hale also had a big game, scoring 20 in the first half. A very athletic 6-3 kid who has a nice mid-range game and was strong on the boards.
Hale and Petry combined to score all but six or seven of the Hornets points.
Hillcrest is a very young team, and don't have a lick of depth. But they have talent. Petry is their only player with varsity experience returning from last year. Start two freshmen, a sophomore, and this is the first year Hale has played basketball since junior high.
Petry has committed to Mo Southern and is a great add for the Lions.
