Just curious the number of youth football coaches (6th grade and lower) on this board and get some discussion going.

Where and what grade do you coach?

Do you run the same offense as the high school or your own?

How many practices do you have a week?

Effective drills?

Are you a disciplinarian/hardnosed coach or do you have your practices as fun as possible?

Most impressive youth team(not yours) have you ever seen?

I'll go ahead and get it started.

I coach the Mexico 3rd grade team and we run very watered down version of the high school's offense.

We only practice twice a week for 1 1/2 to 2 hours. I feel this is enough as to not burn out the kids before they even get to middle school.

I mostly focus on tackling and blocking drills. We run 1 to 2 drills a practice then work on mostly offense for the remainder. If time permits a have them play a game such as sharks and minnows or king of the ring.

Most impressive youth team I have ever seen was this years 4th grade Brookfield, Mo. Just wow.

Fort Osage Jr Pee Wee team. Pop Warner National Champs last year. They scheduled unlimited weight teams from around KC. Saw them play the undefeated Silverbacks that played a two point game with the Wolverines. It was 49-0 at the half...Fort Osage.

I coach my girls in K-1 and 2-3 grade flag football for the y, since I am not coaching hs football this year. we run dw, but I only have one wing since we play six on six, we had a heck of game last week with the k1, they won 2-1 on a guard reverse

Here's the real question, should career little league coaches get state championship rings, also, when the High school wins a state championship? how much credit do they deserve. They basically lay the groundwork thats sets up for future success....

I run the program have coached all grades at one time I don't much anymore I just help the coaches in all grades. We just started running the high school playbook a few years ago. They can practice up to 3 times a week if the head coach wants and up to two hours a night, most just practice 2 nights as the season unfolds. For the drills the head coach gave us some stuff, we also do Heads up football, if you are not doing this you need to!!! For us it is all about numbers we want kids to come out and play and we want them to learn to love the game, however we also want them to respect the game and learn that it does take effort and work to become a good football player, there is a balance to be struck. I heard a high school coach say if you run them off in Youth I will never see them in high school.
Don't think I have an impressive youth team that I have seen, what impresses me are those programs like Lamar that gets more kids out then towns twice their size, that is impressive. Webb City also has huge numbers in Youth. I don't know if the numbers help the high school program or what, sort of like what came first the chicken or the egg. But we want to get our numbers up!!

Now our Head coach and AD say they never read this sight so this is what really happens after mighty mite practice. We all gather round drinking and thinking these kids will never win more or be any better than they are right now with us coaching them in youth WE RULE!! ......
