Coach Josh Martin and his Hazelwood Central Hawks had a great game plan, executed it well and defeated Tony Iron's Vashon Wolverines. Both teams have talent and played above the rim. The Hawks were ahead by 11 points @ the half but Vashon never gave up and tied the game with about 90 seconds remaining in the 4th quarter. but the Josh Martin coached Hawks kept the ball in All State senior Xavier Sneed's hands to close the game. The 6'6" Sneed is a great ball handler and free throw shooter. Hazelwood Central has won the Vianney Tournament 10 out of the last 12 years and the last 3 in a row.
The game had 50 plus fouls called in the game. Both teams have a deep bench. The Hazelwood Central Hawks mostly likely will be a class 5 final four team if they are not in Chaminade or CBC'S bracket. I can't lock Tony Iron's Vashon Woverines to be class 4 state champions but they are indeed one of the favorite on this date.
Vianney defeated Belleville West tonight for third place. Bellevile West 6'6" Tyler Dancy did not play because of injuries.Freshman EJ Liddell 6'6" out played Vianney's Carte'Are Gordon 6'8" tonight. I can see D-1 college scouts driving to Belleville to see EJ play for the next four years. EJ appears to have arrived as a future D-1 college player.
