Harrisonville 28 Pittsburg (KS) 7 Final

I know it's early and next week is another big measuring stick but why not make a case for Harrisonville as Class 4 #1 at this juncture?

They certainly have a case for it. If I had a ballot right now I'd have it 1.Kearney 2. harrisonville 3 Parkway North.

I saw Platte County last night and came away impressed. They have some offensive weapons. The PC vs Ville game will be interesting.

No question it is my game of the week. I do wonder, however, about PC giving up 55 even if it is to a Staley team I know is pretty loaded on that side of the ball.

I totally agree ! Physically PC played Staley on even terms. Their Oline played very well. PC QB Justin Mitchell is the real deal. If they play Kearney like they did Staley, Kearney will have their hands full...

It was a very entertaining game to watch.

I don't think this year's edition of the Dogs will take anyone for granted (that first half vs. Grandview frankly has me concerned) and PC better bring better defense than that............

Harrisonville plays Class 3 and 4 teams. Parkway North plays and has already beaten a good Class 6 team. Kearney plays as Many Class 5 teams as they can schedule. Harrisonville is overrated many years...because of this.

Perhaps but Pittsburg (KS), who plays CJ and Webb I believe, is considered a strong Kansas 5A contender..................time will of course tell.

All class 5 and 6 in St. Louis is overrated year in and year out.

They were pre-season #5 in Kansas 5A, which equivalent to maybe #15-20 in Missouri Class 5. Interesting to see how they do against WC and CJ. Right now I'd say WC by 24 and CJ by the same.

Not sure "one" game from either side of the state can measure who is the best.
SM vs Rock could be entertaining but most would agree that RH today is not the RH from years past.

I thought the Hutch vs Rock games a few years ago were great for both sides of the states but neither are the same caliber today.

So which side is the best?

I would argue that year to year, team to team, class size to class size, variables change.

In my book both sides of the state can be proud of their HSF history....

A 28-7 win over Pittsburg is an impressive win. WC has had some very good teams that have won state titles that were tested playing Pittsburg. Don't get me wrong playing Pittsburg is nothing like playing Rockhurst or Har-Ber but if you don't play well they will beat you.

In the 10 kc suburban conference match ups, the Kansas schools have bigger in six of the ten games.

I didn't say they don't have large schools... I'm saying class 5 in Kansas is the enrollment equivalent of Missouri class 4. Just making the point it is not an apples to apples comparison when we talk about classifications between schools from each state. It does not mean they can't play great football with fewer kids either.
Kansas class 5 ranges from 595- 1052 http://kshsaa.org/Public/Football/PDF/FootballClassifications15.pdf

Just got to ask, does Kansas play a better brand of high school football than Missouri that this win really ranks up there? Pittsburgh last reported enrollment that I can find was in the mid 700 putting them at either a very large class 3 school or a very small class 4 school in Missouri. Not to mention Missouri's season started earlier so we should have a very large leg up on them? So why is this such measuring stick win?

"Early" Pittsburg plays Webb in 2 weeks, Carl Junction a little later. Good or bad it will be a measuring stick. I think I saw where Pitt has an enrollment of about 860, which would be really close to Hville, and much smaller than Webb and CJ.

Kansas enrollment figures are also based only on 9th, 10th and 11th grade enrollment numbers.

here is from their own website, so a little larger than the last report but still a small class 4 school.

Pittsburg High School is a public high school of the Pittsburg School District located in Pittsburg, KS. It has 799 students in grades 9th through 12th. Pittsburg High School is the 55th largest public high school in Kansas and the 7,282nd largest nationally. It has a student teacher ratio of 12.8 to 1.

At the top end KS is very good but gotta wait and see how Pitt looks when they face CJ and Webb. THE big advantage MO schools had this past week was they've played two games prior and it was opening night in KS (also true in AR).

As those around the state may not be aware but KC metro fans should be Week 5 will be the first annual slate of KS vs. MO games. Most of the matchups look inviting (SM East at Rock prob the best of the bunch) and it will be very telling about the KS-MO debate.

I mentioned in another thread that I think it is too bad Pittsburg could not be in the COC. I think they would fit in great in the league. I'm sure it would totally mess up any district seeding process for Kansas to have a team play pretty much all of its games against teams from Missouri so will not ever happen.

And the Large COC is adding Joplin in 2018 as the 10th football team, so that creates the even 9-game regular season schedule with 0 non-conference games for Large COC members.

For the record, CJ now has more than 800 students but is pretty close to the same size as Pittsburg.

I would not overrate this win over Pittsburg. It was week one for Pittsburg and week 3 for Harrisonville. Teams improve a lot from week 1 to week 3. Pittsburg was also without their starting QB, who should be back for them in week 3. Pittsburg did out gain Harrisonville by over 100 yards. Pittsburg will be a much improved team when they play CJ and Webb lafter this season. I wouldn't get too misled by this one score.

From what is happening in Platte City you are more than correct..............WOW thought that would be a good one.

Ditto what I said there. Proven right tonight.

Holy cow! Glad I voted yes on the school bond. No wonder we kicked Webb City's butt.

Kicked WEBB CITYs butt, LMAO... As I said after the week 1 game, once the QBs get some experience its coming and Hells coming with it! Good luck tooting your horn after Districts Wizard...

Webb gave themselves zero chance to beat cj. They turned the ball over 8 out of 12 possessions. Cj is very good , especially defensively . It will come down to a rematch eventually and anything can happen but I will say cj"s wr are better then the webb d backs
