The Media rankings have them at #1.

Maxpreps/Calpreps has them at #11. A quick review of their schedule would tell you why.

The #1 ranking gave me a good laugh though, after I cleaned up the coffee I spit out when I read it.

Kearney is probably still the #1 team but it is hard to rank a team #1 coming off an 18 point loss. Valle is about the only exception. Few people outside of Hannibal probably think they would beat Kearney head to head but they keep winning.

I wouldn't necessarily think Kearney should be rated #1, but at least six are in front of Hannibal.

The measuring stick is Kearney until a Class 4 team beats them. They should be #1 in Class 4.

I get that. They lost to a team in Class 5 that has serious talent and is finally injury free and putting it together. Since Kearney has only lost to one Class 4 team since 2012 (Webb) you have a great point.

Goes to show polls really mean nothing. CJ has a better schedule then Hannibal but it's K all the way. No way they should drop from #1. Especially to a team that has played no one.

Hannibal lost to Quincy Notre Dame who is rated as low as Ruskin in KC. I mean, that is a bad team.

If they can stay healthy I will predict right now that Staley team is going to do something very special this November...........with the RB leading the way much like Fort O did with a certain QB last year.

It was more than that. Staley made a key defensive adjustment (playing #87 both ways......what a beast that kid is) and you correctly pointed out the starting QB returned. Nobody, of course, knows for sure but I came away from Friday night feeling the Falcons may be the C5 team of destiny.

If they play like they did in the second half. Best Class 5 football I've seen since LSW in 2013. Better fundamentals football. But only in the second half. Kearney had them down 10-7 at the half.

Would really like to think Staley was just a good team and Kearney not bad.

The answer will come Friday against PC.

With that said...
A close loss will not be the end but certainly the beginning to it if they do not win out.

All the Kearney losss tells me is that there is no overwhelming favorite this year. Instead of WC and Kearney being on an apparent collision course like the past couple seasons there are a few other teams that can crash the party. In Kearney's case it probably only is PC while there are several teams that at this point either have in the case of CJ or could like Camdenton knock WC off if they don't play a clean game.

Looks like every team this year has some flaws and whoever fixes them the soonest will advance.

Unless PC soundly beats Kearney Friday my gut feeling is that Kearney will win when the district title is on the line so Friday is just an appetizer.

Agreed. Kearney may need a do-over in this match-up.
