Hamilton (14-0 in 2009)
Class 2, No. 6 Pre-Season Power Poll
How important is a move up one class? The
Hamilton Hornets finished the 2009 season as the undefeated Class 1
Show-Me Bowl champions. A season later with a roster that includes
many of their top players the Hornets move up to Class 2 where they will
face a new challenge.
The Hornets finished with a perfect 14-0 record,
defeating opponents on average 48-8. Along their playoff run to
the Edward Jones Dome it was the Hornets who ended the impressive
40-game Orrick victory streak and quest for a third title with a
resounding 51-13 victory. In the playoffs Penney has outscored
their opponents 198-74.
The Hornets do most of their damage on the ground,
they have passed less than 90 times last season.
All-state senior running back Trevor
Dixon(6-0 172) leads the way on the ground, he averaged 9.2
yards-per-carry last season when he surpassed 1500 rushing yards and
scored 32 touchdowns. All-state senior quarterback Keagan
Prather(6-3 181) will pass when needed, but does most of his
damage with his legs he rushed for nearly 1,000 yards and added 15
touchdowns.
All-state junior linebacker T.J.
Schieber(6-3 220) returns after leading the team with more than
100 tackles. All-conference performer Josh Pickrell
returns at linebacker and tight end for the Hornets.
2010 will bring a new challenge for the Hornets who
open with a lengthy winning streak to continue, but they showed last
season upending Orrick challenges can be no problem!
