Let's be real here...

When is the last time we passed a budget?

Do we not just keep extending the debt ceiling and the deadline...it's just shill game...nothing more than a way to argue. They just keep putting it off to the next congress, or after recess, or the next officials.

Every. single. time. we have a shutdown, the government votes to keep itself alive and operating..go figure.

This isn't a partisan issue either...I'm not scared of a government shut down. I wish it would.

It's honestly really sad we can't have common sense prevail and trim our budget. I did hope for more from Mr. Trump in this area. If we can't run a surplus now, when will we?

It’s amazing how many things were overlooked by the Clintons but not against trump.

But I was really talking about government shutdowns...they aren’t even legit.

Not going to happen. He said Mexico would pay for a wall. He said we would have an infrastructure bill. He said our healthcare would be better, cheaper, amazing.

The point of the whole thing was really about the impending “shutdown” of our government.
I am not affected by a shut down that I know of.

I'm ignorant of specific people I know that could be affected, because they might not tell me. A Gov. Check is a bunch of people. This is not good.

If death is involved, as a result of a shut down, then it's not good. These are the facts I know of at this time.

This is an example of why I agree with Libertarians. I also agree with Ron Paul who I heard in an interview many years ago. He said, (paraphrasing) unless we destroy ourselves with our deficit spending we will keep repeating the same thing.

In this example, he saw no difference between the two parties Rep/Dem. I agree.

In my opinion, the Libertarians bring much wisdom to the table. Their economic choices are the hardest to face, that's why they don't get elected, period.

There's something noble about facing reality and being responsible.

Maybe a strong Libertarian Presidential candidate will come along again, that can articulate the sensibilities of their economic messages, without sounding pious, able to withstand the onslaught of identity politics.

These ideas they have are easily discredited by powerful people and for the reasons that make them good candidates, they're terrible at politics. This is not the same as being weak.

At this point, I'm frankly suprised Mount Rushmore is still standing.

He sees no difference between the two parties yet HE keeps running as a republican. Now that's taking a stand against the status quo.

How would Trump be able to golf during Christmas if he shut down everything? I guess he could pay for the secret service through the Trump Foundation.

haha....lets not for a second forget the champion candidate for the democrats last go around had a pretty decent foundation going.

And despite raising a lot of money for worthy causes, they abused it and took money from foreign governments for favors in the state department. Which is why I didnt vote for either of the dirt bags.

I didn't vote for either, either.

If I would have voted, it would have been against Hillary...

As is known, I lean pretty hard right, but our political system is so busted it really isn't even worth fighting about in a lot of issues. It's just a game and we are pawns.

What do the American people need to do for congressional term limits to happen and tie balancing the budget to them getting paid and getting healthcare? I think that would be a great step in the right direction.

Its a Schumer shut down.
No, no ... the POTUS said it was all on him. He said, “I’d be proud to shut down the government. I’ll take the mantle on this. I won’t blame you or anyone else.”

I’m beginning to think he may have been lying that day. I kind of think he lied about Mexico paying for the wall, too. I’m beginning to become a little disappointed in the POTUS.

We voted for the wall on November 8, 2016. #Schumershutdown. The people made a choice, Democrats obstructed.

No, no. More people, like about 3 million people, voted against it. Those who voted for it need to blame Mexico. They refuse to pay for it. Remember, the current POTUS said they would.

Do you remember how the Republicans publicly pledged to obstruct the previous administration for eight years?

For it to be a Trump shutdown Congress needs to pass a budget and put it on his desk. At that point if he vetos it then and only then will it be a Trump Shutdown, untill then it’s all on congress.

The last time one of these continuing budget resolutions was rammed thru Trump said he wouldn’t sign another one. Time to carry through on that and make congress get off of their butts and pass budget legeslation

Yeah, he always keeps his promises (Mexico/wall/pay). Why should he stop now?

Congress had a spending bill that Trump even agreed to sign a couple of days before the deadline. Rush Limbaugh and Co. called him a coward. Then suddenly, he put ego in front of country. He even said it was all on him. How can you say you support the stable genius but yet not allow him to be “proud to shutdown the government?”

Funny you would say that. t rump disagrees.

“If you say who gets fired it always has to be the top,” Trump responded. “Problems start from the top and they have to get solved from the top. And the president’s the leader. He’s got to get everyone in a room and he’s gotta lead. But he doesn’t do that,” Trump added, referring to Obama.

“And that’s why you have this horrible situation going on in Washington. It’s a very, very bad thing and it’s very embarrassing worldwide.”

He also noted that when people look back on a shutdown in history, they’re “going to be talking about ... who the president was at that time. They’re not going to be talking about who was the head of the House, the head of the Senate, who’s running things in Washington.”

He had an agreement with dems about a year ago that would have been for $25 billion for border security, partly fencing and a whole lot of tech improvements in exchange for dealing with the DACA folks. He agreed to it for a week or so then bailed when it was time to actually do it. IF they can ever find something HE will sign they might send him a bill. For some reason McConnell is afraid to send him something he might veto. But then again they never know from one day to the next what he would sign or veto. I say send him a bill and see what he does with, can't be any worse than where they are now.

Its just like abortion. Repubs dont want it settled. Then they wont be able to use it to promote fear and anger in 2020.

I have a friend who has always said that. The only time they talk about abortion is during the campaign. Quiet for 4 years. Then comes the next campaign.

POTUS says the majority of the government workers either not working or working and not getting paid have told him to hold out for however long it takes to get wall funding. I’m sure this is gospel because POTUS has never exaggerated anything in his life. How’s that for being PC?

Can any of you 'conservative' folks on here tell me why McConnell is afraid to send Trump a bill approved by both houses of congress and let him decide whether to sign it or veto it? He changes his mind so much there is NO way to know what he'll do when they send him something. If he vetoes it then they will have something to go on to decide whether to try to override the veto or send a different version of the bill back to him. That's how this thang works, it's not meant to embarrass the president. Presidents have vetoed many bills and congress has sent them back something else. Why has 'compromise' become such a dirty word in Washington since 'Tea Party' crowd got there? It has to be better than what's gone there for the last 10 years!
