I think I'd go Jerome Bettis. I think he truly is what most people think Alstott was. (I'm not discrediting Alstott at all, he's one of my favorite players of all time.)

Earl Campbell or Walter Payton, no contest. Would love to have seen what Bo could have done if he was football only and not injured.

Earl Campbell was a flat out DUDE. He would get to wear the tear away jersey, right?

No matter who you would pick all these players, even Peterson to a certain extent, are parts of a bygone era. This is just not how football is played anymore.

He averaged 3.7 yards per carry for his career.
Not in the same league as a runner as the rest of this list.
That is because the vast majority of his carries were in short yardage situations. I remember in the late 90's early 2000's if the Bucks had a lead in the 4th they would move Alstott to tailback and everyone knew the game was over! Death 3 yards at a time.

I can't believe no love for Csonka or Payton.

Pound for pound Payton was the best power runner I've seen. Grew up watching him run over people on NFL Films.

Power football still has it's place. Look at the playoffs, 5 of the top 6 teams that lead the league in rushing, are still in. I don't think thats an accident or coincidence. I saw teams line up in two TE sets throughout multiple games. CJ Ham for the Vikes is an unsung hero in their running game at FB.

I doubt we'll go full bore I formation and use that as your primary offense, but I saw that more this year than years past.
