Can someone explain this?:
I'm looking at the calpreps/maxpreps rankings right now and the mean rating for COC teams is about 19 with a range of -4.1 to 45.7. Meanwhile, the Ozarks has a mean rating of only 9 with a range from -29 to 45.3 and half of the teams are rated below zero. If both conferences have 10 teams and have all played each team within their conference up to this point, shouldn't the mean rating for each conference be exactly "0?" Furthermore, shouldn't the Ozarks Conference and the COC have exactly the same mean rating in a computer ranking system? While the COC has been successful against the Ozarks conference in the past, there should be no way for a computerized ranking system to determine how good any of these teams truly are this season until either conference has played an out of conference game.
