If you are out doing farm work, sure. He pulls trailers and works out of it. Does just fine. My best friend has a 2011 V-8 and I couldn't tell you a single difference in it. Me and him drove it out to Colorado hauling 4-Wheelers last year.

My Grandpas V-8 I can tell a difference. He had a custom built 6.0 put in his 66 Suburban. That thing hauls @$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$!!!!!!!
Unless you hooked the V6 up to that same trailer and pulled it to the same location you might have a case. The MPG isn't as big of an issue between the V6 and V8 as it would be if used for work. It's the fact the V6 would need to work harder to do the same load as the V8. I'd go with 5.3L V8 every time.
I'm kind of partial to my Duramax myself.

I'll be driving my 1500 for a long time. Wife is up next for a vehicle. After that I'll upgrade to a 2500 Duramax or Cummins. Brother has a 2500 Ram and that thing is sweet.

Not asking to argue, just more out of curiosity

Have you actually drove the redesigned V-6?

No but his cousin's brother-in-law's neighbor builds them so I think Drop knows a little more than anyone in the world.
And he once sat on the tailgate of a V-6 and drank beer with the entire Missouri National Guard who all hate Obama.

Only V-6 I've drive in a truck was in my FIL Toyota. I liked the truck, but it struggled with a load of wood in it's small bed.

The 5.3L has been around for a very long time and is unbeatable as for as durability in the trucking industry. I get the fact they are squeezing more HP and Torque out these new V6 aluminum blocks, but when it comes to work there is no substitute for cubic inch.

Give the new EcoTech a few years and I may change my mind. I know they already have surpassed the Ford's Ecoboost for economy(Chevy's V8 > Fords V6)

Since we're talking new

Chevy EcoTech V8 355hp, 383ftlbs tourque, 22mpg highway in 4WD
Chevy EcoTech V6 285hp, 300ftlbs torque, 24mpg(EPA Rating)

For a $1000 I will be buying the V8 if I am shopping new. Those are pretty impressive numbers for a V6. But you can't deny the difference in HP and torque. Hauling a trailer to the lake every now and then I wouldn't worry about it. Hauling bales or wood a few times a week it's a no brainer.

I know more than you.

We're not stuck anymore. Gas dropped to $2.68 today. Sad part is we think that's a great price these days.

Harrisonville went from 2.71 to 2.89.

Went from 2.69 on Tuesday to 2.84 on Wednesday to 2.99 on Thursday. Guess 3R convinced them ISIS was a bigger problem than thought.

Not in my town, went down just yesterday. I'm sure they check Mosports on a regular basis to see what's going on in the world. Where else could you get the scoop from all angles?

Re: paid $2.52 3R

Like I said it's pitiful that we have to talk about these prices as being a great deal.

Re: paid $2.52 3R

Gas is down to $2.49 at Wally World's Murphy station in P.B.
