What are the odds high school football happens in Missouri this fall?

Not good if people are still doing everything they always have been. Schools are closed but there are still a lot of people out everywhere

IMO even if conditions improve a lot by August, which they probably will, I would still have a hunch a lot of schools will take the safety first option by canceling all of their fall sports. Based off how MSHSAA reacted with their handling of basketball by dragging it out as long as possible, they'll probably try to get fall sports back in action.

FYI I saw on the local news in St. Louis that the county is supposed to peak on April 25.

Unfortunately unless some herd immunity or a vaccine is developed there are models showing the Wuhan Flu continuing until 2024. Granted those are the worst case, doomsday predictions, but still the average I've seen is 18-24 months of this stuff.

A college professor in the state of Missouri told my wife she was told to plan to start the fall semester with in-person classes meeting but to expect to switch over to online courses by mid semester.

Yeah everyone is making contingency plans. Better than just hoping everything works out and winding up right back here.

I'm seeing the same thing....we need mass testing. The US has tested a little over 1% of the population and I suspect the majority of those tests were in the hotspots.

yes you could. But you have to care.

I was reading a manufacturing magazine on this and they say you can blame Trump or Pelosi but you are wrong, there is no country that is capable yet of producing enough kits to meet the demand of all nations right now just once over, we are not talking more than that. We are not just talking the United States every Nation wants to test right now and is looking to ramp up their supply of testing kits. So you are $*^@ out of luck if you think America can get there.
They said it would take 8-10 months just to get the supply chain set up to meet all the demand once over. I hope when this is all over corporations have learned a lesson and look to bring manufacturing back here.

Funny thing that same magazine back in October was raving about Apples manufacturing supply chain and how all companies need to look at them when it comes to creating one. Then just last month they are saying how Apple had it all wrong and is now suffering by having all their manufacturing in one country LOL. Funny how we look back on history and go you dumb SOB's.

So you cite a “magazine” as if they are the ultimate authority on manufacturing coronavirus tests and then you give an example of their inconsistent wishy-washy opinion on other manufacturing topics.

These tests are still evolving and being simplified as we speak. I think I will pass on the “magazines” opinion, bruh.
What if the title of the magazine was 'Ultimate Manufacturing Authority Monthly?'

OOH! Shoot with the burn!!

What exactly do you mean by "liberate" Gerry?? Youre starting to sound like that clown Duck, who kept ranting and raving about Gerry not getting voted in.

I am still waiting for the Docguys to start a podcast so we can all hear your girly voices telling the same lame jokes over and over.
The hilarity will have all three of your chins quivering.

Excuse me!? GIRLY voices!? Have even seen any of our docs?? No one, except maybe Mox, has a girly voice. I kid Mox! I kid!

I have no idea what to expect in late August. It seems unnecessary to cancel sports IF students are already ‘gathering’ on a daily basis in class. I am somewhat expecting schools to resume in the fall however I have heard from some administrators in larger KC districts that resuming in the fall is considered ‘unlikely’ at this point.

What is unusual about this situation is that precedent has been set that we shut everything down in response. Some of that is due to unique attributes and lack of understanding and treatment but I think some is a result of fear and social/political pressure that is inflamed by social media. Whether that’s right or wrong is a different discussion but I think the next 4 weeks will provide some clearer outlook for the future.

As things are eased there will probably be an increase in cases - but will it be catastrophic or manageable? I think it will be manageable for the summer but then increase even more in the fall and winter as school resumes and colder temps return? And what is the threshold for more forced shut-downs moving forward? It may vary based on the local or regional prevailing political ideology. Liberal areas will advocate that a lockdown order is the only tool available and must be used forcefully to save as many lives as possible (from covid) and at any cost. More conservative areas will counter that we tried lockdowns and it’s not a practical long term solution and not worth the cost to society and the economy - they will lean on personal responsibility and general precautions while the outbreak ‘runs its course’, presumably resulting in more caes and more deaths in the short term but hoping it can be managed without also derailing society and the economy.

I am really hopeful to be able to sit in the stands this fall. Right now I am craving such a thing even more than I normally would look forward to the upcoming season!

A lot of uncertainty. You have to wonder what this might do to the already dwindling numbers on rosters nation wide. And will the kids be in shape?
No telling. Will be interesting to see... if they play this fall will it disrupt the normal rules and expectations and if so is it across the board? Does it further the gap between the winners and losers or does level the playing field somewhat?

I could see numbers waaay down. But I could also see numbers up with kids wanting to do something. I wonder how many new video game addicts have been created during this 6 month summer break?

Kids are funny, give them 100 options and they won't participate in anything. Tell them they cannot do something and they are breaking down the doors to do it. So I wonder since something has been taken away from them if you won't see numbers go up? But then parents might not want their kids traveling to other towns either during this time? So many unknowns for sure.

I didn't say it was a perfect....just saying. Why don't you open up a place to build them if it is so easy.

Please explain exactly what you think we should test for. I don't understand why we test unless someone presents symptomatic.

I’ll go on record. 40% chance games fo off on regular schedule with little additional modifications, 30% they start a little later with a compressed schedule. 30 % they are scrapped due to fears.

So I’m not near totally certain it happens but I think it will be much more clear in 2-3 weeks.

I see Georgia, Florida, and Texas have been open for 2-3 weeks and positive COVID cases and deaths continue to decline. Good news. Nobody under 50 in Alabama has died due to COVID-19, so it seems like the south is getting through this.

Georgia is doing well. They have done a lot of testing.

Afraid Texas isn’t responding as well.....

because an asymptomatic individual can still infect other people. if i could use a high quality test frequently before i went over my parents for example this could prevent passing the covid to them. this isnt rocket science.

They all know asymptomatic people can spread the virus, yet they are still taking people’s temperatures before they enter some buildings. I don’t get that. My wife went by the eye doctor to get her glasses repaired and they took her temperature. She could have still spread the virus to everyone there.

agreed however testing and the taking of temperatures is all that we really have in the first line of defense. something is better than nothing i guess.

Alabama, Arizona, Minnesota, Oklahoma, Ohio, and Wisconsin are all showing good signs.

Texas' cases are up because of the massive testing they've done in the last week and the vast majority of those tests came back negative. The media have been very tricky to post about so many tests, but don't share the actual percentage of whose came back positive. It's clear the curve has been flattened around the country, but now everybody says we can't do anything unless we get a vaccine. Despite that, I'm still taking this virus quite seriously, but the data shows plenty of positives that I don't think many people are aware about or possibly in denial somehow. I'm all for staying safe, but as you know the economy is tanking and that will ultimately cause more deaths than the virus, especially kids throughout the world.

Clay County. Home of two high school football teams with a winning record versus Webb, has had 1 death out of 266,000 people. Of the 0.1% of the people that are positive, 0.3% have died. Curve flattened, local hospitals ready (and have more people dying of the flu than this.) Let's not let the situation of the Tri-State in New York dictate our lives. Yes, it is bad in the tri-state, they have about 50% of all the cases in the U.S. They also ride subways that are packed, through stations that are packed, and on trains that are packed. They get in buildings with elevators that are packed. We simply don't live like that here. Let's roll along. And don't forget the words of Frank Zappa when you are swallowing media coverage: "I am gross and perverted, I'm obsessed and deranged, I have existed for years, but very little has changed. I'm the tool of the government, and industry too, I was designed to rule and regulate you. Have you guessed me yet? I'm the slime oozing out of your TV set!"

All I'm saying is there's so many negative side effects with people who live in a bad economy.

then be proactive dont spend months lying to the American people and downplaying covid as some left wing Democrat and media hoax. it was more than one person coming in from China and no it wasnt going to magically go away. the buck stops at the president's desk.
