Looking for any information with current vacancies and jobs filled??? Specifically looking for a spot in South St. Louis County, Franklin, Washington or Jefferson? Public or Private...was looking at St. Pius X in Festus but have heard they may have hired a former defensive coordinator from the area for that job...any truth to that???

Is / was St Pius open? Coach Oliver is a heck of a football coach.

Oh perfect, so there is still time to apply until the 20th...I had heard it was closed and decision had been made. Thanks a ton.

Hillsboro Asst. Coach Frank Ray has taken the St. Pius X Festus job....should be very interesting to watch...if he can truly coach/develop/find/recruit good character hard working kids like the Dawgs they had on defense at the Boro then Pius may be decent.

I think you hit the nail on the head with if they find good talent they will be fine. A private school with no attendance boundaries in a small school conf should never be bad.

Oliver won 8 games in 3 of 4 seasons there. Odd to me they let coach Oliver go to make his teaching position full time, but then hire a head coach to replace him who doesn't teach.

Based on this past seasons roster, St. Pius lost a lot of seniors this season from the program. That could have been a part of it. Yes Oliver won 8 games in 3 of the 4 seasons but look at the teams they played and everyone's strength of schedule. Most of the teams they beat this season had few wins and their opponents wins also came against other bad teams. Will be interesting to see if they can actually recruit like the St. Louis area private schools. I doubt it though. Those city schools don't make most of those recruited kids pay a penny in tuition. It's the exact reason some of those city private schools are getting shutdown. They can't afford to stay open due to allowing so many kids to go there for free on "scholarship". St. Pius however will make them pay which will drastically reduce who is willing to go there just for football. If you look at another successful non city private school like Valley Catholic it is a different situation. First off Judd is a heck of a coach. Its also different there because they actually have a Jr. High and have a feeder program with families that send there kids there for generations. St Pius does not have a feeder program at all and never will. In my opinion Pius will continue to beat the bad teams and if coached well they will beat teams that are decent. That's about it. Not a knock on anyone but the truth.

Am I wrong in assuming that the Archdiocese of St. Louis would make all decisions and policies regarding all 27 of their high schools? They don't apply the same policies for grants in aid, based on ability to pay, for all of their institutions?

I can't speak to exactly how it works, but I do not believe they are all the same or have the same oversight. Schools like Chaminade, Vianney and now St. Mary's are supported independently of the Archdiocese by the Marianists. St. Vincent and Valle Catholic are parochial schools, which is basically the same set up as every K-8 Catholic School in the city.. in addition they also support a high school. As it relates to St. Pius I believe they are underneath the Archdiocese but my guess is they aren't willing to take on the 'scholarship' hit from letting kids in without paying tuition. Without the larger financial backing that other schools have, using a scholarship program could put them in a position similar to St. Mary's where the bottom dollar isn't adding up and the Diocese looks to cut the school.

I'd say some of it depends on the president and principal of the school as well. I don't follow it close enough, but if you look at DeSmet, Vianney, SLU, etc, their talent level goes up and down typically timed with a leadership change. (meaning is the admin more concerned with academics or athletics). Look at Vianney, they played in back to back state championships and now have dropped to the bottom really quick.

Valle is a diff deal in they are typically mostly only Ste. Gen kids.

That's a great point about the leadership. I could be reaching here but I can't see the Archdiocese allowing to much of it to go on at a financially stable school like Pius. Especially with recent closings or threats of closing in the St. Louis area for similar scenarios we are discussing. I could be completely wrong though. You are correct about St. Gen. Pretty much entirely Ste. Gen kiddos. Pius is kids from all over Jefferson county with several other school options not to far. Thoughts on anything?

Not directly related to sports but great article on stltoday.com about the rural catholic parishes in St. Gen county and manifest changes in the St. Louis archdiocese.

I guess my thoughts on anything would be I don't see how MSHSAA allows schools to have different attendance boundries but doesn't think they should have their own classification for the playoffs. The multiplier doesn't have any effect IMO on St. Mary's, DeSmet, CBC, LN, etc. It does have an effect on a few of the smaller, Valle type schools. Seems simple to me, go to a large and small school private school state championship, and go back down to 4 or 5 classes of public schools. I also know this issue has been kicked around, complained about, good, bad, ugly for years, and most likely nothing will ever change. Again, you will never convince me when the rules are different, they shouldn't be separate though.

The biggest difference between the St. Mary's, DeSmet, CBC of the world vs a school like St. Pius is donor money. Donor money that goes straight to the sports programs vs the overall fund. There is some deep pockets willing to hand out money for winning programs.

Vashon in STL's PHL announced a search for a new head football coach via their Twitter account.

Leon McEllrath is the news head coach at Riverview Gardens. He most recently resigned at Alton (IL) Marquette and before then was head coach at McCluer North.

Untimely news today in that Chip Sherman resigned as the Head Football Coach at Lincoln College Prep effective immediately. The retired coach returned to the sidelines last fall and posted a 9-2 record in his one season leading the Blue Tigers.

There has been rumblings of how difficult KCPS is making it on athletics there. No real clue what the deal is, but a lot of talk about no support all of the sudden.

Because LP is the only place that gives a crap the rest of the district is use to dealing with inner city crap so they let them slide. The district can't stand LP doing good.

I think in most cases it works the other way. Complaints may be up but $$$ down if you are having a tough go of it. When things are going well Everyone wants to be part $$$$ goes up.

Shane Kearbey is now the head coach at Malden. Taking the head job of a program that ended their season early the last two. He coached for years as an assistant at Poplar Bluff then got the head job there in 2008 before being removed for disciplinary reasons in 2010.

Wait, you’re telling us there are politics involved in how schools are treated? Catholic schools? In St Louis? Surely not…

Braymer "relieved" its coach of his duties and has already named a new HC.
