I see Class 5 District 8 does this and LIKE IT. Does anyone else do this? One real glaring first rounder not doing this is Webb-CJ being played this Wednesday in Belton (140 miles each way on a Wednesday evening).

I noticed the COC junior high tournaments started doing this. I guess the one issue could be referees?

Are they allowed to do this? I thought the state said you had to play at the district host school?

Columbia is splitting games between Hickman and Battle.
The dumbest game being played in terms of location is Blue Springs vs. Grain Valley in the opening round in Columbia. Nothing like driving an 1 1/2 hours to play a school that is 10 minutes from you.

Districts should be on a rotation so every school gets to host sometime. Having schools vote where to have is silly. 6 of the 8 teams in our district are in the St.Louis area, they ain't gonna vote to travel to Jackson or Poplar Bluff. The boys play at Kirkwood and the girls at Fox in Arnold.

Completely disagree with. There are some places that have no business hosting.

But some get to host year after year. I remember once a coach complaining about not getting to host a district. (He had hosted for the previous 6)

But that is controlled by the teams in the district. If those teams are happy with the same places hosting for multiple years then why should anyone else care

Right up there with the aforementioned next door SWMO neighbors CJ and Webb all driving up 49 to Belton.

None of the teams in class 6 district 1 have poor facilities, it should rotate every year not let the St Louis teams out vote Jackson and P.B.

Oh I understand that, and agree to an extent. When its bad is you might be a school with great facilities, but get assigned to a district where you are in with a number of teams from the another conference. You might have the best facilities in the district, but most times those Conference schools will vote together, leaving you no chance to host. Not saying, to change it, just pointing out, some of what goes on.

I say it has to be changed when 2 of the 8 teams in a district will get outvoted to host every year. No one in the district has poor facilities.

No system in this stuff is going to be perfect. But letting the schools in the district vote seems like the fairest to all involved. If you start overriding such things you will open it to all kinds of problems.

Not when there are 6 of the 8 teams in the St.Louis area and the other 2 are well south of there. What's is more fair than a rotation so every school gets to host sometime?

yeah things like that may stink for some, but if you make that change it would have to be across the board and it would not work well. Many places should not be hosting things. They do not want to do it and it would be a disaster.

Maybe the teams that want to host should just have it on rotation. I 'think' that is what happens around here.
Situation is a smaller conference with a couple WEMO schools though. Those seed meetings are sometimes eye openers. They have generally rotated between a WEMO school and a Golden Valley school.

So? Win more games.

I would also say that just let the higher seed host each game.
Going to a system where the higher seed hosts the game like they do in football would be much better than making the 1 seed the overall host of the district.

Once again there is not school in this calls 6 district that doesn't have a facility that could host the tournament just fine. Not to mention that should NOT matter, every school should get play their district 'if they want to' at sometime sometime.

Another advantage to having District games at higher seed host is all can play, like they are tomorrow night in C5 D8, at a reasonable time like 6 PM instead of having late games especially on school nights.

But one situation does not mean that everything should be set that way. The reality is that many places around do not have the facilities to host. Why should every school get to host if they want? Maybe give them all a participation ribbon too

Democracy in action.... Nobody wants to drive to that armpit area!

The higher seed hosting each game would lead to higher ticket sales and less travel costs. It would also get the kids home sooner. Why isn't this done?

I can see the positives of doing it that way. Personally I would not like it from the standpoint of taking away the tournament feel to it. Multiple games in one location is a fun thing for teams and fans IMO. Semifinal night usually has 2 good games with a fun atmosphere.

Honestly the best way would be to have districts at a neutral site from competition standpoint and in spread out districts try to find a central location. Problem is that isn't very feasible. Nothing worse then playing a team on their home floor in a district final especially if they are a lower seed.

I agree with this! The reason I would not like the "Higher Seed" to host:

-refs - right now you have the best refs doing 2 games at a single location. If you move to stand alone games, you will have JV refs in your most important game
-scouting - gives the teams a chance to live scout next opponent
-tournament feel - love the atmosphere of districts. You don't get the same atmosphere for stand alone games.
-schools with an interest in hosting will host. The AD plays a huge part in this.

For most teams, districts last 1 night. Does it create a late game for some? Yes. Does it create travel for others? Yes. Most of those schools that have to travel afar have been doing that all season. Jackson has made 5 trips to STL this year. Poplar Bluff made a few trips that were close to 2 hours this year as well.

I didn't say a dang thang about who wins, I said they should get to play at home in a district tournament sometime. I don't know why that's such an issue for you folks.

Things don't work that way in reality. Not everyone gets to have their turn. People vote. I am sorry your school or kid dont get to have a home game. Maybe it isnt fair, but things aren't always fair in life.

What trips you make during the regular season has NOTHING to do your district tournament. P.B has traveled a lot more the 2 hours to play this season and that's fine for district games too, but but not to have to do it EVERY year!

the ref issue is a real one.

I've never had a kid play basketball but I've probably watched more HS and Juco ball, both boys and girls, than most people on this board whether "my" team was playing or not. Seems to me most of you don't want anything even remotely fair.

Yes you caught all of us. None of us want anything fair. Each team having an option to put in for host and each team getting a vote. Not fair at all.

When your outnumbered 6 to 2 by schools from St.Louis how do you think that's gonna go? I'll leave it there and watch the games I wanna watch regardless of class or gender somewhere near me, carry on.

Again that can suck for some places, but you do not set a standard for the entire state on one district.
