When he went there, I really hoped he'd spend 10 years in relative anonymity. He'd have average (for the Mang anyway) seasons and the Angels would be irrelevant. Somewhere deep down inside me, I knew that wouldn't be the case. But I sure hoped it would be. That said, I just can't root for the guy and subsequently can't root for the Halos. Call it bitterness if you want. I'm cool with that.Originally posted by Duck_walk:
Angels are enfuego
That describes me to the point. Would have had ZERO issues if he just came out and said "dude, I'm going to cash the biggest check". Sorta like Tiger and getting busted with all the ladies. I have no issue if he just comes out and says "you know what guys, getting married was a mistake. I was a hound in college. And am going to continue to lay all the lumber I can while I can." Instead, they come out and give this PC drivel. I miss blunt honesty. Probably why I've always been a fan of guys like John Daly, Coach Knight, and guys like them. For all of their flaws, they are just brutally honest. Some people just can't handle that.Originally posted by 3Rfan:
I think folks would not hold a grudge if he had been honest and said he wanted a ridiculous contract instead of saying it wasn't about the money. I know that's what made me mad abut the whole deal. We'll see how well the Angels like that deal in few more years.
I honestly haven't watched a Halos game since he went. I'll preface that by saying I was never a big Mang fan. Don't confuse that with not thinking he was ABSOLUTELY FREAKING AMAZING to watch play. As you said, those 10 years were incredible. He's the best hitter I've ever seen in my 38 years. And he provided me MANY MANY moments of sheer pleasure as a Birds fan. I can recall vividly so many moments he provided great joy for me in winning a game. More than one of those, "where were you when..." moments.Originally posted by Duck_walk:
I still enjoy watching him hit.
Those ten years were incredible.
I want him to keep his career numbers up
so people will realize the historical
greatness of his St Louis decade.
I can't root against him. The Cardinals signed him early
and had him at a pretty good discount for a long stretch.
She is the main reason I have any bitterness at all about the whole deal. I don't root for or against him now. He's just another (really good) player for another team. I still feel in the long run he'll regret leaving. He could have been Stan. Who wouldn't want that?Originally posted by vbsideout:
It's a business! Go Albert. It was probably his wife's decision so I don't hold it against him.
