I was watching the game last night and a situation come up that I have never witnessed in an MLB game(I'll try to explain the best I can). I wanted to see if anyone knew the actually ruling. Situation-Maness was pitching and I believe the batter was Segura. He laid down a bunt down the first base line and when he was running down the line it appeared like he intentionally knocked his helmet off, which landed in fair territory very close to the ball that was still moving(also in fair territory). The question-If the ball(still rolling)had made contact with the helmet in fair territory is he out? I bring this up because I umpire quite of bit of ASA softball in the summer and have had girls attempt to slap hit and it turns into an essential swinging bunt and goes straight down then up then lands in fair territory then hits their bat that is completely in fair territory, which results in an out. Maybe it would've all hinged on the umpires discretion if he purposefully dropped his helmet by the ball. I just didn't know if anyone else noticed that play or knew what they would've called if his helmet had made contact with the ball. Thanks

If he intentionally removed his helmet I guess you could call interference. By the way, I looked up the rule in softball. If the ball rolls and hits a bat in fair territory it is not an out. If the bat is dropped and rolls into a fair ball, THEN you have interference.

Something like that would be 100% umpire discretion and not reviewable. The only way you're going to get a call on that is if it's just plain obvious in real time
