District games

$10 a game which is ridiculous. I can understand paying for the Final Four which are decent quality broadcasts, but most of these $10 games are just video and not high quality. Let the schools stream until the state games.
I dug into this a little more and I believe it’s the same setup that most schools are already using, but now instead of it being a free YouTube link it will be a $10 video on MSHSAA. The host school also has to supply a person to work the camera. What a fail by MSHSAA. Just another opportunity to make more money.

My view is that if MSHSAA is doing the production, then it is ok to charge for it. But if they are not, then the schools should have full rights to how they want to stream it. It is absolutely ridiculous and a complete money grab. I hope the member schools raise hell over this.

I have paid for a couple because I have really wanted to watch a couple of seniors play their last few games. I very much agree that MSHSAA has no business charging when they are not even creating the production. I know of two radio stations who stream things for free on youtube all year and then are forced to charge during the postseason. I very much hope that the people creating the broadcasts are getting the lion's share of the money. I don't mind paying to watch, but $10 per game is ridiculous. If you watch the entire playoff run for a team that wins it all, that is almost as much as a full season of mlb.tv or nba league pass (single team plan) to watch productions of varying quality. I would happily pay $10 a month but ten bucks a game? That is twice the price of admission. That is the equivalent of Blues charging $100 to stream EVERY SINGLE GAME that they play. I assume MSHSAA is a non-profit 501(c)3, do they really need the money?

I have always understood the MSHSAA operates at the behest of the ADs. If we all contacted our local ADs and complained might it help? Are schools getting a lot of money from these broadcasts?

By-laws are changed that way...but that's kind of a common misnomer in my opinion. They definitely make their own decisions on things. I'm not really sure what they could do if you just rolled in with your Ipad and hotspot, filmed (by the team manager), and streamed it to your YouTube channel or whatever you broadcast to. Might try to slap your hand later I suppose.
