Different is not the same thing as better

Trump is a bragging blow hard he has to know more than anybody else and he has to prove it. Or in his words he is a tremendous blow hard!
Yeah, I mean, this story is not totally at all like what you would expect of Donald Trump...

the story does explain the laptop ban as well

McMaster isn't even denying he shared the classified information in his statement. The Administration is effectively confirming on the record that he did this.

Guys...you seriously going on a report from an unidentified source? You have everyone in the meeting denying it, except some unnamed person not attending the meeting.

They never denied the substance of the report. Learn how to listen and read critically. They denied he shared sources and methods. That's not what the article claims.

And they told the Washington post to redact they key classified part of what they had heard. Which they wouldn't do if the story were false.

I gave McMaster some credibility on this until what the president tweeted this morning. There's a reason McMaster never actually denied what was in the article. It's because it was basically true.

It's amazing how people will reflexively believe his staff over the Washington post when he makes his staff go out and lie about everything. You should discount EVERYTHING they say.

I get being apprehensive about anonymous sourcing but they didn't exactly act like the story was wrong yesterday in those denials. And they had hours to get ready for the story because the post informed the WH of it before it ran.

WTH you expect those denying it to come out and say he did it.

The Washington Post cares more about the country than Trump. They withheld the information from publication that Trump blurted out while bragging to our freakin enemy.

I still have not got the point. What exactly did he blurt out that is damaging to anyone??

That's the part of the story that's the biggest clue it is true...they were told by the government not to report on the specifics of what he said.

In other words, they know what he leaked, and they were told that was too sensitive to publish.

Parsing from articles I read like this

https://www.lawfareblog.com/bombshell-initial-thoughts-washington-posts-game-changing-story

1. He revealed enough specificity about the intel that would allow Russia/Iran/Syria the ability to figure out who our intelligence source is. Reporting has been intentionally vague on what detail this was for obvious reasons - the government told WP reporters not to release this level of detail publicly.

2. This was not US gathered intelligence according to the Washington Post. It came from an ally. Our President burned one of our allies by sending their intelligence to their enemy without permission. You cannot have our allies thinking that Donald Trump is going to effectively leak key sources of theirs to Russia/Iran/Syria. That gives them an incentive not to share as much with you.

Taken together, the end result of burning sources in IS territory who are revealing terrorist plots to you is that you decrease the amount of intelligence coming to the US likelihood that the US falls victim to a terror attack. That's a woeful outcome for the American people.

_____________________

When you read the reporting, which states it is about the laptop bomb threats - there's a lot of criticism that there was absolutely no reason for them to burn a source like this. Just tell Russia we're banning laptops on flights for a reason and you should consider doing so in a manner consistent with us.

I think Trump is a doofus, but come on now.

An anonymous source heard from another anonymous source that the president leaked something so bad that it can't be repeated? BAHAHAHA

"Hey Jimmy, Sally said something really bad about you, but I can't tell you what it was. You just need to not be her friend anymore,k?

Why did the White House ask them to hold the sensitive information?

Why didn't McMaster deny the substance of the report?

Why did the President effectively confirm it with his tweets?

I also don't think what you are saying is an accurate characterization of how it was disclosed to reporters. One of the key things they reported was that this had to be disclosed to the CIA and NSA heads, and that they had to try to expunge the intel from records of the meeting to limit its distribution. That created a network of people who could credibly leak.

That is a garbage opinion piece on so many levels

Yes, leaks are bad, BUT SO IS THE PRESIDENT GIVING AWAY INTELLIGENCE TO RUSSIA. One does not excuse the other.

Yes, politicians and officials occasionally make mistakes and leak info they should not, but this was at a level of incompetence and malpractice that past Presidents would not have committed with this sensitive of material with Russia or other states that are not allies. And it also fits well with major criticisms of why he is unfit for office.

The damn president confirmed this morning he told the Russians.

intelligence along with enough substantive supporting data to allow the Russians to discern what source reported this to our ally

McMaster basically confirmed the report in that conference by admitting Bossert had to make those calls and by his discussion of what exactly trump said and did.

No one is disputing he shared significant information that was classified at that time.

If you want someone to not believe the Washington post you can't have the president and the head of the NSA effectively admit the core reporting is true.

I thought the Rooskies were our allies. They fixed the election. Putin and Don are best friends. This is confusing.

Lets listen to Roy Blunt.

“One of the lessons I’ve learned as a member of both the House and Senate Intelligence Committees is that sharing closely held information may provide a way for our adversaries to figure out how we got that information,” Blunt said, in a statement issued Tuesday morning by his communications director. “One of the key principles of protecting sources and methods is to never share the information you get from those sources.”

Translation: Trump is an idiot with no business being commander in chief.

I dunno if you are joking are not, but I think it's quite plausible that Don, from Flynn, has some underlying belief that he can work with the Russians in a way that nearly everyone else in his administration does not believe

The NK statement from a few days ago was just bizarre

Normally, I would think it is a lot more fun to be in the majority in Washington than in the minority. It cannot have been that way for the last week.

I'm playing dumb? You guys don't even know what you are all up in arms about.
I asked an honest question, no one can answer it, but your all mad as hell about it.
ag-man report eaglesalumni for his language, and poor grammar. It's you're as in you are, not your genuis.

I'm not defending Trump.

Just think its funny everyone is so mad about what he said, when you don't know what he said.

Since you cant read, perhaps you can find someone to read it for you.

Reuters) - President Donald Trump came under pressure on Tuesday from U.S. lawmakers, including some of his fellow Republicans, to give a fuller explanation of why he revealed highly sensitive intelligence information to senior Russian officials at a White House meeting last week.

U.S. officials said Trump discussed intelligence about Islamic State with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Russian Ambassador Sergei Kislyak at last Wednesday's talks in the Oval Office.

The information had been supplied by a U.S. ally in the fight against the militant group, the officials said. The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal and CNN identified the ally as Israel but two U.S. national security sources said they doubted that. Israeli officials declined to comment.

Wow.
Since ISIS has sworn to blow us all to hell in the name of Allah and his prophet (peace be upon him and all that), I would HOPE every government on the planet shares info every single time they have data on one of their plans.

If the Ruskies has inside info on said such, I'd like to THINK they'd inform us. But, hey, let's all make this a political bonfire.

Never mind.

By the way: Trump gets TWO scoops of ice cream while guests get one. Rachel Maddow to report Trump family video of Baby Donald saying "da da da" at age two while petting Russian wolfhound
News at 11!
That's not the point.

It would be very easy to have said hey Russia we have credible intel on this threat. You didn't have to give away the farm to inform them. And you could pass it through normal channels that would appropriately review the content of the message to ensure the right level of disclosure was occurring.

This is not a good excuse for what he did.

Told them what ?
Something HIGHLY CLASSIFIED! What the hell were those two doing in the oval office to start with their 'photographer' turned out to be a TASS news guy. I guess it's ok to give out classified info with a guy from Russia's government run news agency in the room.
