At Cardinal warm up he claimed the Birds were not going to make anymore major improvements to the team. Uhgggg!!!!!!!!!!!! 20 OFs with no where to play 30 ptchers with no where to pitch but we trade only 3 of them. Money from 3 million fans going into ballpark village and we get Gregerson as our 9th inning guy who lost that job 2 years ago and don't forget big Miles from over seas. Next thing we will hear is how next year when all the studs go on the market they will be in a great position to finish 2nd I mean sign one of them. Go Yankees!

Sure seems like we need something more unless the explicit plan is basically to wait a year

They arent going to sign any of the big names. I cant wait to see Grichuk's launch angle when he throws the bat in the dugout after another K.

Molina, Kelly
Ozuna, Pham, Fowler, Grichuk, Martinez, Bader
Gyorko/Carp DeJong, Wong, Carp/Martinez
Garcia

Waino, Weaver, Wacha, Martinez, Mikolas

Gregerson, Bowman, Cecil, Lyons, Reyes, Tuivailala, ????????????????????????

Seriously. Does that starting rotation put fear into any lineup? Does that look like a shutdown bullpen?

In't think the one player we signed makes that much difference. I think Randall and the other 30 outfielders could put up as good as numbers as the new guy.
How about signing Lynn and Arreita. Maybe one of them could be your closer.
The classic Mo mov. Maybe he is the problem not Matheny.

Randy G has a career OBP under .300

The only person he might put up similar numbers to is a guy who spends his career floating between organizations in AAA

Right now I think the Birds are a 81-81 team. They finally get a middle of the order hitter, but let the pitching slide. This is not going to change until the attendance numbers drop to below 2.5 million and if the new TV deal and ballpark village money makes up the difference then it won't change then. Their payroll right now is less than last year. Think about that. All they did once the season was over is talk about how they had to improve the team. They did this by lowering payroll. They better hope that Reyes comes back and is great, because by June 1st they are going to searching for a closer and at least 2 .starters. I'm not sure Reyes, Hudson, and Flaherty can fill those roles.

As good as he was last year, and he was great, Weaver has only been thru the league once. You know how these things go.

Can Pham stay healthy?
Was that the real DeJong?
Is Gyorko the full time 3rd baseman?
I would rather have Bader up than Grichuk.

All good questions, but I still point the finger at MO When you know you need a closer and your answer is Gregerson when you could have got Reed or Nicasio (both) who they had first hand knowledge of at the same cost that seems to be a miscalculation which MO has been doing a lot the last few years. Miles will likely be another mistake and the biggest might be thinking that Waino can turn back the clock. This pitching staff is very risky to me, much like the middle order hitter was for 3 years. All that money and the unwillingness to sign more than 1 relief pitcher will be their demise this summer. 4 to 5 weeks before spring training so maybe ticket sales will lag and they go out and make another move.

They blocked me from twitter so I cant make any more of my excellent suggestions. Bahahahaha

And there they go, turning Grichuk into a guy who was a good reliever last year plus a minor league lotto ticket who throws hard but can't find the strike zone enough to get out of AA

It feels like the bullpen is pretty much set now and the OF logjam is slightly closer to being resolved

Now when Pham or Fowler gets hurt we should get to see Bader. I like him so far. Its his turn for a chance. Grichuk had plenty.

Huh??

Grichuk traded to Toronto for 2 pitchers
So they took on a kid that went 5-10 in AA, walked almost a many as he struck out and his ERA was 5+? Sounds like a great prospect to me? Maybe the bullpen guy is good.

Pretty clearly it's about the bullpen guy being under team control for 4 years
