The Wright City Wildcats are off to a solid 2-0 start to their
season and standing at the center of their success, senior tailback
Trent Davis has placed himself among the elite performers in the
Show-Me State.
An all-state selection as a junior, Davis who stands 5-foot-10
inches, weighs 175-pounds and with outstanding speed has made a career out of
leaving opposing defenders empty handed. In a 55-22 EMO Conference victory over
Clopton/Elsberry, Davis gained 321-yards on 26 carries, scoring four rushing
touchdowns and a receiving score.
"This week he did a great job of running the football and
playing hard", commented Wildcat head coach James Weir.
"He is a determined runner and great blocker for others too". Opposing
defense enter with game plans dedicated to stopping Davis, but he and his
Wildcat teammates continue to overcome. "He is a marked man and
still continues to work hard and be successful. The offensive team around
him has done a great job of blocking."
Davis is off to a fast start with 594-yards and 8 touchdowns
through just two games. As a junior, Davis rushed for 2,497-yards, gaining
8 yards-per-carry, and scored 34 touchdowns. Weir adds that some of the greatest
attributes of his star tailback are not found on the football field. "He is a
great leader on our team. If he was not having this kind of success, he
would still be a leader and valued member of the team."
A probable 5,000-yard rusher, Davis projects to be a sought
after talent at the next level. "His future in college football is as a running
back", commented Weir. "I believe he can play at the highest level,
especially with the way teams spread it out and run their offenses. He is
an excellent blocker, pass catcher, and is very football smart. He will
success at anything he does in life."
Success is often measured on the athletic field and Davis has
helped the Wildcats achieve plenty in his varsity career, however he has a
bright future due to his attributes on and off the field. "Trent is a great
player and person", added Weir. "He is a great leader and great teammate.
He knows his success revolves around the people around him and he embraces it".
