Somebody help me out with the Dakota Hudson love. His minor league numbers aren't the special.
  • a hit an inning
  • 2/1 K/BB ratio
  • 6 k's per 9
  • Whip up around 1.3
These numbers would be fine in the majors, but minor league numbers don't really carry over to the bigs. I've never seen the guy throw one pitch, I'm just not sure what MO is thinking here. He mentioned him in the same breath as Flaherty and Weaver yesterday.

He was a 1st rounder. Scouts love him. mid 90s fb

I agree that, stats wise, he doesn't seem ready for the big time when compared to someone like Reyes in 2016 or Weaver in 2017. The were murdering AAA lineups. And their ability to miss bats has translated well at a major league level. Weaver has struck out 81 guys in 65 innings on the big club. That's big time stuff right there, especially for a starter.

Dakota Hudson and Austin Gomber both had slow starts to this season that effect those numbers. Hudson was near very good in his last half dozen starts in Springfield and Springfield still has a chance at the post season almost exclusively thanks to Gomber.

Flahery, Hudson, Gomber, and Pearce all have good secondary pitches and change speeds well. I would rather see any of them win a starting role over Reyes. Pearce is probably trade bait though. His fastball tops out around 93 and the Cards love the gas. He's just an innings eater that gives you quality starts and a chance to win every time.
