Cut block vs chop block ?

My experience is that 95% of fans don't know the difference. Do all other crowds randomly yell for chop block calls that aren't happening? Or is it just the games I go to?

Most people in the stands really have no clue about anything football related. I always forgot how dumb people are in the crowd until the end of the year when I go from my sideline to watch another HS game.

I forget how dumb some coaches are, apparently they forget about who pays their salaries. It is those dumb people in the crowd.

My point is unless said coach actually speaks to most people in the stands on various aspects of anything football related, of said games that he attends after his team is knocked out of contention, then his statement of most people is painted with a pretty large brush. Granted there will be many that most definitely, will not have the vast amount of knowledge that a person that makes at least part of their living as a football coach has. Maybe said coach would be much more comfortable, enjoying his time doing something away from all us ignorant fans. And the only coach that this is directed at is FootballCoach8. I know and have known many football coaches over the years and they have never complained or stated publicly about how dumb most fans are.

Few years ago I was thinking about becoming a ref and started studying some power point stuff that's available to get ready for the test. Figured out real quick I didn't really know crap about the rules

One of Harrisonvilles fans asked me how much a safety was worth on Friday.

I was at a game in October and a fan yelled for the coach to "stick to the game plan".
Not sure how the fan got his hands on the game plan??? Hacker?

Game plan was probably to call 20 chitty plays in a row then start calling some good ones.

60% of the time it works every time.

How about the ole "That pass was uncatchable!!!" or the best one over the weekend by the Harrisonville fans "That's a touchback. His foot was touching the line!!"

I guess the best thing for every high school football fan (Harrisonville) to do is become football coaches or football officials so that we can watch the games with all knowledge of all aspects of the game. Then I guess it would be required that all fans be paid the same as coaches or officials to be spectators, as then all of us could do there jobs, instead of just being dumb fans. Oh wait a minute I don't want to do their jobs , that is why I am JUST a fan.
All of you have a nice day I am out.

Good point. Loved the way those kids play from Harrisonville. Great program with lots of history...We laughed hard about how mad some of the fans got at the officials. They were foaming at the mouth...

Heard those as well, and these are the types of people that tell me if I'm doing my job correctly or not.

Every DA coach in the stands knows what their team is doing wrong.

I guess my stance on the issue is that I don't tell the people at the steak house how to cook my steak, nor do I instruct the people on the assembly line how to put my car together, nor do I yell obscenities at my electrician when the power goes out because I am not an expert at these things. I may know a thing or two about whatever it is you do, but I'm not at your place of work screaming things at you acting like the solution to whatever problem you have is simple (though it occasionally is, admittedly). I'm guessing that most professionals scoff at most non-professionals' snap judgments on things about which they have no idea or only a small idea.

The stereotypical screaming fan in the stands who yells at the coach is something that has to be addressed by the fans, themselves. This is a culture that, left unchecked, infects even the kids on the team. It takes effort from the coach, the parents of the players and fans in the stands to come against this. It starts with informing the screamer, "We don't do that, here." We had to change that culture in our stands. It pops up, occasionally, but overall, I believe we've stopped it. It helps when you can point out, "He's found a way to win multiple state championships, what about you?" No? I didn't think so..... we don't do that, here."

You don't tell the Steakhouse whether you want it cooked rare, medium, or whatever?

Sounds like coaches are much more sensitive to criticism than I thought. When I played, our coaches always told us to tune out what fans are yelling at the game ... that we should be so focused on the game that we don't hear the crowd. It's been a long time since I have played, but either things have changed, or coaches nowadays don't practice what they preach.

Please remember taxpayers are paying your salary and fans are supporting your school and your program by buying tickets, items from fundraisers, etc. And that all fans are not like what you are describing.

My original comment was only made because I being just a fan thought that is was a little strange that a high school football coach would go on a public forum and call most fans dumb. I have never stated that I or any fan knew as much as a coach, or an official. I never claimed that there was not some validity in what the coach said, just that I do not remember ever seeing or hearing of a coach calling out most fans as being dumb in public even if he believes that and even if he is correct.

I came back for my first SG game about 5 years ago and sat in the stands. That was the last time I sat in the stands. I had one guy cussing a linemen who's parents were sitting in front of me. That was it.

Wife and I enjoy the fence. Lets the boy play and I don't have to listen to the people who have little to none knowledge of the game. Just my wife who has to listen to me ;)

I agree that all fans are not like what I am describing. However, you seemed to have missed my point on the steak analogy, so let me explain what I mean: I don't tell them how to do the actual grilling technique of the steak (not the same as the doneness), even though I grill a little at home.
Also, I'm not talking about the crowd during our games; I'm talking about exactly what the other guy is talking about: being in the stands at someone else's game (probably the one you're a fan of) and hearing the chatter of some. I'm unconcerned about what people say about me personally, but I do take exception to criticism I hear of the coach I played for (who has, incidentally, apparently stumbled onto about 10 championships) when I see his games.
And I agree with you on remembering who pays who (you sound like you could be my father in law, except he probably wouldn't have said "please"). I also pay taxes...and would you please remember that I pay your (in the broad sense) salary every time I buy your/your employer's goods or services (unless you're retired, in which case I only paid 7 years of social security). Do you see how the "I pay taxes, so I pay your salary" assertion is pointless, since everyone pays everyone's salary one way or another?

I definitely understand that. Very hard to hear someone criticize a friend or someone we look up to, particularly when the critical person is not qualified to do so. Seems like the world is now full of experts and critics who believe they know everything and wants everyone to know how "smart" they are. It happens everywhere and in all professions and has me mumbling under my breath all the time.

That's the thing that's confusing. In the NFL pass must be catchable. No such thing in high school, the ball can be sailing into the stands and pass interference is still called

Thank you, very well said (written).

Wouldn't it be interesting if we could act like fans during the regular day. Farmer's rows are off - razz him, minister is giving a boring sermon - throw the program, kid sings the anthem off-key - yell at the choral instructor, check-out at the grocery is slow - boo. Actually, I might try some of these...

This is a great thread.

I sat down at the Plaster to watch Lamar game. They were offsides first kick and then KO out of bound the 2nd time. The guy in front looks back at me and says as serious as he can be.."when a kickoff goes out of bounds, it's a penalty"

I struggle sitting in the stands.

Can't bring this argument in because it makes far too much sense.

I'm sure most coaches would be willing to give the $.25 or so the loudmouths contribute to their monthly income if they'd just cheer. Lord knows I would.
Sheesh! All this complaining! I know a thing or two about yelling from the stands, even though I had to stand along the fence duing one of Ampipes most important games. Do you know how many tickets they gave us? Anyways, when I think the coach messes up, I actually do run him out of town and not just yell about it!
