DeSmet beat CBC up 42-14.

Impressive but this clearly isnt the CBC of the last couple of years.

Joplin will probably move up to #2 in the State rankings and remain there the rest of the season.

COULD THEY PULL IT OFF???

Is this a real question?

Went to Missouri State so yes. The whole area is a dump. Depressing really. I did spend a couple weekends at Downstream Casino though. Downstream is nice.

lived here almost 50 years...dump is fairly accurate. it's a poor conservative area,is what it is.

I understand completely. I follow the local St. Louis news and sports and Union Station is okay. I’m kind of an expert on what goes on up there.

The Joplin-Carthage area can be dumpy in spots but the Ozark mountains are beautiful. Spfld-Branson is not dumpy. If you want big city life, it wouldn't be your dream though.

when discussing dumpiness, mother nature and her features are rarely part of the conversation.

I’ve lived all over the country and visited dozens of countries when I was in the military and the one thing I’ve learned is every place, whether it’s Iraq or West Palm Beach, has a lot of good people and jackassses alike.

As a former SWMO resident, it has some great places to be sure. And some good people.

It also was the setting for the movie Winters Bone, for good reason, and has an inordinately high percentage of people who put their entire life’s possessions in their front yard and love to go to town without bathing themselves or their kids.

One of the very few places in this country I’ve seen that to be frank.

Is it a dump? Might depend on where specifically in SWMO one is referring and what it is being compared to ... compared to Naples or Telluride? Most Definitively.

Compared to Conway, Ark. Probably not.

Um spending 4 years and meeting probably 500+ people from an area gives much more insight than watching the news.

Like its literally a dump. Just a bunch of small towns. I was in Joplin right after the tornado, the only silver lining that came from that horrible disaster was that Joplin was forced to rebuild and update. Re built a lot around the city and on Main Street/Range Line especially.

I understand that the truth often hurts but we both know SWMO is not a nice area or even desirable area of the state.

If you look at the fastest growing counties in Missouri, 4 of them are in SWMO and Joplin's county just barely missed the list so someone is finding this area desirable in some form or another.

Meanwhile both STL city and STL county are actually losing population.

But if you like gunfire during your football games St Louis is hard to beat

honestly what part of SWMO can even start to match the slums of St Louis, the most dangerous city in the nation???

Ha. Different strokes for different folks. I would much rather live in Jomo than St. Louis. To me, St. Louis has more things to do and it has some real nice areas, but it has just way too many crime ridden, 3rd world type of areas. Isn't like 70% of St. Louis blighted?

Believe me I know. I just tried to buy a house in Christian County!

swmo is kind of a dump in its own way. seems you go back in time when in the area. however, stl is a complete dumpster fire. wouldn't wish my worst enemies to live there. kind of thought those ridiculous riots in ferguson would just burn the entire city down. might have been for the best.

St. Louis City has been losing population for the last 40 years.
St Louis County has been around the same the last 40 Years.

As a whole the greater STL Area has been growing steadily and now has close to 3 million people. So dont worry people still want to live here. 20th largest city in the US.

Also "fastest growing counties" is percentage based. If Tiny Joplin goes from a population of 45k to 50k thats a 11% population growth which would be unheard of for a large city.

So when I tell you that No One is finding those areas desirable I dont mean literally. but just a couple thousand people so not many.

The crime in STL are mostly in isolated poverty stricten areas. All you would have to do is simply not go to those areas.

St. Louis is no different from any major city or any city in the world. The places were people dont have much, you will have a higher crime rate.

Its a lot of poor people in Joplin. A lot of people on drugs and they have their crimes in certain areas. But if I take you by 32nd and Schiffendecker you wont see much of anything. Just like any other city.

So, you're saying that St. Louis is a nicer town than Joplin, just don't go to 70% of it?
There isn't a street in Joplin that I wouldn't walk at night. I definitely couldn't say that about St. Louis.

You very clearly have never been to St. Louis if you think 70% or anything close to that number is unsafe. Not even remotely close

Again like I said 3 million people live here in the number is consistently growing. Lots of jobs, lots of things to do in comparison to the other parts of the state, and a great place to raise a family.

I've definitely been there. My in-laws are from St. Louis. Tehran probably has a lot to do also, but I don't want to live there.
We'll just have to disagree on this one.

Just as long as you don’t mind them getting shot

My sister lives in O'fallon. I find it quite nice. Near them is 2 high school football fields basically across the street from each other. Think O'fallon Christian and one of the Fort Zumuitts

I dont care if you dont wanna live here. Its harder to make it in big cities so I understand. But to pretend majority of St Louis or anything more than a fraction is unsafe is just untrue and you know that.

O'Fallon/oʊˈfælən/ is a city along Interstate 64 and Interstate 70 between Lake St. Louis and St. Peters in St. Charles County, Missouri, United States. It is part of the St. Louis Metropolitan Statistical Area. As of the 2010 census O'Fallon had a population of 79,329, making it the largest municipality in St. Charles County and seventh largest in the state of Missouri.[7] O'Fallon's namesake in St. Clair County, Illinois is also part of the St. Louis Metropolitan Statistical Area. The two O'Fallons are one of the few pairs of same-named municipalities to be part of the same MSA.

Exactly dude,,,,it’s not even in St Louis County much less the city lol

Honestly I dig at STL a lot, mostly because I was jaded by all the STL classmates in college who complained endlessly about how much SWMO sucked. They just didn’t know how to exist without a larger city to entertain them. Like taking a millenial’s iphone away. They struck me as awkwardly snobby, (even compared to the KC kids) and misguided in their belief that all of us locals wished we could be like them. They didn’t seem to have a firm grasp on the reality that STL actually has a pretty poor reputation elsewhere in the state.

Having said that I do actually like the ‘lou a lot. It’s a fun place to visit. All things considered I’ll concede it’s probably the most interesting region of Missouri and if someone were planning to visit Missouri I’d probably suggest they start in STL.
