Penn State v Clemson might have really been fun.

If you can't win your conference you can't win the natty. If only someone had said that before the teams were chosen..........

Screw non conference games.
If you only take conference champs then teams can play great non conference schedules and not worry about losing.
It will make for greater regular season games like when Mizzou used to play the NDs and USCs every year.

FSU is playing Bama next year! Not everybody hides from competition. Some enjoy it. Well except Florida and Ole'Miss, they didn't enjoy it.

Sooners used the theory of playing one of the toughest non-conference schedules in the nation and paid the price. But, I do agree that as long as its only Four in the playof Conference Champs should get every benefit of the doubt. In this case Penn St

I feel like there is a 4-page thread somewhere on here about this. I may be wrong.

We never really explored the aspect mentioned above. If you base the playoff on conference champions it frees teams up to play fantastic out of conference schedules without risking a playoff appearance. This would actually enhance the regular season significantly. But continue on with your OSU support to the detriment of the sport.

So what would be the incentive to play a tough OOC schedule if it wasn't a CFP factor?

I agree that it would be an added bonus of doing conference champions. Mizzou could keep playing Deleware state even. Like I said in the other thread, I would fully support it if it's in writing. I wouldn't have said a thing had that been the way it went this year.

My problem is there are five Power 5 conferences with four slots. We will still have controversy on the team left. So do you have a play-in game with the worst of the five conference champions? what about the Boise States of the 2000s. Will they ever get a chance to play in the playoff? Do you expand to 8 teams? 5 conference champs and 3 wild cards (this makes SOS a factor for those teams)? I'd be all for it. I want the best football, but yeah I'll keep detrimenting the sport for my love of the Buckeyes.

At least you are honest, even though selfish. But here's the thing, I have no problem with a team who did not win a conference championship PROVIDED the conference champ is also one of the four. In other words, you can't take one without the other and that leaves only two slots. I am not in favor of expanding the playoffs.
My rationale is this: Once a conference declares a champion (they are our best this year) then that should mean something. Now, they may not be deemed to be good enough to make the four team playoff. So be it, but no way should a team who finished behind them be elevated.

Fact is...in the same scenario involving YOUR team, you would have had the same argument. But I guess Ill maintain the claim of being the selfish one....thats fine. We've argued our points long enough.

In your scenario, we will continue to argue "who is deemed to be 'good' enough"...so it'll continue to happen. The only way to eliminate that is to find a way to take the opinion out of it.
