Week six.. Who's taking it?

Carthage @ Ozark
Carl Junction @ Nixa
Joplin @ Republic
Webb City @ Willard
Neosho @ Branson

IMO...
- Carthage
- Nixa
- Joplin (possible Republic upset?)
- Webb City
- Branson.

Joplin was good enuff to win the conference but is inconsistent enuff to finish 4th or 5th. No room for error vs a top well coached team.

As it stands halfway through the season ...

COC Standings
W-L PF-PA
Nixa 5-0 170-82
Webb City 4-1 172-84
Republic 4-1 159-111
Joplin 3-2 139-101
Willard 3-2 128-99
Branson 2-3 72-118
Carthage 2-3 132-131
Ozark 1-4 79-174
Carl Junction 1-4 117-175
Neosho 0-5 104-197

Carthage looks a bit better to me on paper than Ozark so I'll pick them something like 27-21. It will most likely be another one that comes down to the last couple possessions and how the game clock works out. If Carthage can avoid giving up 2 big TDs in the first 2 minutes that will help.

Nixa will overpower CJ no doubt.

I'll take Joplin over Republic 35-21. Joplin is ready to bounce back after playing the 2 best teams in the coc consecutive weeks. I thought Joplin was going to run the table this year and they haven't but they are still really good.

Webb City definitely gets past Willard but I'm interested to see how close Willard can make it.

Branson should beat Neosho but who knows, could be close. Neoshos passing game was impressive but they looked one dimensional and defense wasn't great. Branson's defense looks good but their offense is anemic. They say defense wins games so based on that I like Branson?

Interesting list. Webb City will surpass Nixa in offense vs defense by the end of the coc season even with a 'worse' record.

Carthage has actually scored more points than the next two teams ahead of them and has scored more points (barely) than their opponents even with a losing record. Tells me the loss to Branson was indeed an anomaly.

I just wish formatting would remain when you copy and paste information like that.

Still wish I had access to all COC box scores to do weekly individual and team statistical leaders.

I agree the Ozark/Carthage game could be interesting.. I just think Carthage is too big up front..

Republic/Joplin intrigues me, because I could see Republic putting together their best game of the year thus far.. they have been riddled with turnovers offensively, but their defense has played well, and when they take care of the ball and control the clock they are tough to beat.

Webb has Willard easily IMO, but I will say that Willards size up front is impressive.. they just play both ways and get gassed easily.

I thought the same...but being down 14-0 to Neosho at half...yikes.

Carthage @ Ozark

Carthage's size up front is probably too much for Ozark to handle. Ozark's defense has had some good first halves (Joplin and Webb), but are on the field far too long to remain competitive. I think Carthage probably grinds one out here. A lot depends on who's available on offense for Ozark too. If the RB is out again, then I'd give a huge nod to Carthage.
Carl Junction @ Nixa

Coyotes will be packed by 9PM with folks ready to celebrate with the late night happy hour menu.
Joplin @ Republic

Game of the week. Joplin in a close one, if they're healthy. I think their D line can really give REPMO fits at the LOS, which is obviously a huge hindrance for what REPMO likes to do.
Webb City @ Willard

Webb...but this might actually be closer than one might think. If the soph stud offensive weapon is back and full go...then might be a bigger spread. Willard has no answer for a player like that. But, Willard's size and athleticism on offense can score some points on Webb. And if the same Webb offense that played Ozark in the first half last week shows up this week, this could get interesting. I still think Webb is just too much for them.
Neosho @ Branson

Branson by a couple TDs. I think they're better than I've given them credit for.

It was 14-7 at half but regardless the first quarter was bad, felt like Branson all over again. Neosho scored 2 big play TDs in rapid succession, one the all to familiar big play around the outside, and on a 4th and 17. In between was an impressive defensive effort where Carthage was around the 1yd line 2nd and goal and didn't score. But from there Carthage took over 28-7 in the remaining 3 quarters.

Pretty much what I would’ve expected the whole game to be. But sometimes young and inexperienced teams like to dip their toes in the water to start games. Check the temp a bit. That can lead to bad starts.

Agreed. I know Jasper is owning the interception before half but Joplin would still have lost the game by a point. Nixa didn't convert those 2 Joplin fumbles but dang.. Joplin was on their way to possibly score on those drives. The what if bug of course.

Yeah the Nixa "what if" bug hit hard with Joplin, Webb City and Carthage. All 3 lost to Nixa but conceivably all 3 could have won if just this or that would have gone a different way. Webb was stopped more than once near the goal line. Carthage had the ball, down by 6 with just the right amount of time left on the clock and snapped the ball over the QBs head.

Just no room for error when playing a tough opponent!

Webb without top 4 runners tonight. Starting 4th and 5th back. Soph converted wr now the 5th. Prob going to be a boring get it over as fast as possible game.

They better play better on offense than they did last week in the first half, or it will be over the other direction by halftime. Willard isn't great, but Webb won't be able to man handle Willard like they did Ozark. Then again, if the soph plays, he's kind of a game changer.

If number 3 plays Webb will be fine. If not it could be closer. However lots of people could run behind that O line.

Webb won't have a close game until quarterfinals
If they do, it'll be tonight. @Willard is about as tough as it gets the rest of the way on their schedule. But if the soph doesn't play and they still have turnover issues (seems like they always do) this will be a ballgame. Willard isn't the same Willard. They're better.

I think they have had 5 turnovers so far this season so much better than last couple of years

Had two in the first half last week...and if not for a 40 yd screen with 2 secs left, they'd have gone into half with a 7-0 lead on Ozark. If they repeat that half tonight @Willard, they won't have a halftime lead.

Webb might finally turbo Carthage for the first time in eons this year.

It's the end of the game that matters
Correct...but if they're down at half, that second half doesn't become a bleed you dry sort of thing. They have to try and make plays. And they're a little shy on playmakers on offense. I think they're way better than Willard, but if the soph doesn't play I think this game could be way more interesting than Webb wants it to be.

Well, their NO. 4 looked good last week, and I think the sophomore got 60 yards. The junior QB stepped in nicely for NO. 3 at QB so WC is really showing that "next man up" mentality.
