Just for fun here is a picture of trends among the current coc teams over the past few years.

Any surprises in the works for the upcoming season? A guy who is more in the know than me thinks the top 3 from last year will again be #1WC and then Carthage or Joplin but a tossup between the two. Both teams lose some key spots and also return key experience and have some deep rosters to fill from. After that it's wild west. He seemed to think Republic might make some noise but didn't go into detail on why. Neosho as well. CJ maybe but from what I had heard over the last few years they have a talent vacuum coming up through the ranks that would be hitting this fall.

*One thing to note is that WC has some extra pad between them and Nixa, Carthage and Joplin that had 1st round bye or shorter playoff season where C4 has the 1/8 slaughterfest game.

Webb will be Webb the rest is just a race for second place.
I think Neosho is going to be the sleeper team this year, QB is going to be really good.
Joplin, Carthage should be good.

I saw both Carthage and Republic at Monett's 7 on 7. Carthage looked way better than Repo, if they are going to be any good it will have to be with the running game and a big line. Passing game looked very average.

7 on 7 isnt real football! Although it is not surprising that Carthage showed better than Republic

exactly!! that is why I posted what I did, if they have a running game and big o-line it could change things. But MV looked way better than Repo at all skill levels at 7 on 7. MV may be strong in class 3 again. But Repo for a class 5 school sure seems short on skill.

Was looking at JRods 2019 roster last night,,counted 151 kids on varsity plus another gaggle of Freshmen coming out. People over in Webb going to have to pass a bond issue to finance helmets.

I thought it was an unusual prediction to put Republic as a team to look out for. No disrespect to them, they've just been at or near the bottom of the conference for several years. I should have asked for details.

Maybe it was just a result of the weird game last year where Republic more or less ran circles around a sleepy Carthage defense and forced multiple fumbles on offense, keeping the game uncomfortably close until very late. Republic's running game did look very strong in that game but I mostly wrote it off as Carthage asleep at the wheel but who knows.

maybe that is why he is telling the youth to cut numbers, way to many kids now playing in Webb.

Yeah their roster size is impressive and I've always wondered how much of a factor sheer numbers is in sustaining success. I would guess they have more participants than most class 6 schools. How much of an edge that gives them I don't know. At a certain point there may be diminished returns and just padding the sidelines. I don't know what is average but at least in Carthage there are usually around 80-90 and they have probably 300 more kids overall than Webb.

What a problem to have. Way too many kids playing

Yes it is, Webb is a different animal for sure, Kids there want to play football, they have already made their numbers in Youth and will not accept any more kids. That is a very nice problem to have. I guess if any of those other kids want to play they can move over here! LOL.

They can just move to the west side of Highway 43. We need more talent west of 43.

I think anyone could sign up during the signup period,,,since that date is passed they aren’t going to take late signups like they have in the past

I don't know to many towns if any besides Webb that has closed sign ups yet. Webb being able to get the numbers they have this early is really amazing and just shows you how important football is to everybody in that town. It is a good problem to have.

Will be interesting to see how Webb bounces back from an uncharacteristic playoff loss. How often do you see a WC team block two kicks and lose? Last time they lost a heart breaker it was followed up with a down year by their standards and a 4 loss season.

Yes but that fourth loss was in the quarterfinals to the eventual state champion by 6 points. I think most teams would love to have that sort of down year.

Absolutely true, which is why I said it was a down year for them. Could someone like Joplin catch them lingering early? Or will they come out swinging for redemption like in ‘17?It will be interesting to see.

They will probably have a few Sophmores starting that will need to adjust to Friday nights quickly. But it’s not like they have to play, it looks from the trailer park like they could be a very special bunch for the next few years

Speaking of CJ being down, Alex Baker (starting QB) broke his ankle in practice today.

The rules of the football camp were clear no tackling and no touching quarterbacks!:mad::mad: Monday he gets x-rays and find out how severe . Just have to get ready for basketball season.

So there is no chance that this is a broken bone that could heal in 6 weeks?

Maybe CJ needs to go back to the old days and quit holding summer camps. Isn't that two years in a row our star has gone down in summer camp?

This camp was in Arkansas. This was avoidable!!! Camp rules were nobody tackles at all and nobody touches QBs. He was tackled :mad::mad: by the back of his QB designated color jersey as he started to scramble out of pocket. He was bent back and severely dislocated his ankle.

Doctors put his ankle back in place and put a stint/cast on it. Hopefully the closures are correct. We find out Monday how severe and if surgery will be done. Even on a good case that it takes 4-6 weeks, doctors say he needs to strengthen it. So it's looking like he'll work for basketball.

I didn't realize it was the same date as Ray's injury.
NO MORE JULY 11 TH CAMPS!!

Competitive football camps in the summer are insane. No reason to be playing anyone else until the jamboree outside of 7 on 7. Had a kid tear up his knee in a full “wrap up” camp at Mizzou and ruin his summer baseball season not very long ago.

İ dont understand what you have to gain in July with team camps against other teams ....contact or no contact ....these kids aren't in football shape , not used to contact , not conditioned , not used to game speed , muscles arent used to the extra flexibility they are forced into, not used to the summer heat, not fully understanding assignment, allignment , key, scheme etc just going at it for what ? You can literally go pretty much all summer intersquad , no pads , and work on the basics . Most of these HS kids know how to tackle and block ....teach them the scheme , the plays , different scenarios , basic skills , ...crank it up around the second or third week of August and call it good. CJ has been burned two years in a row now ....last year it probably cost a guy a d-1 ride and the team a few games .....this year they lost their qb for minimum 6 weeks from now (best case scenario) and I heard Issac Shields ( their top lb ) has a torn ACL . Congratulations on winning the July commerce ok football camp .

The problem is also the punk who tackled him--by back of jersey-- is not accidental. AB wasn't in football shape, but he's been playing baseball all summer. He was suppose to finish baseball this weekend with CJ team and next week play for a Joplin team. He's never badly out of shape. AB plays 3 sports continuous one after another.....for a no tackle camp--he was accidentally tackled pretty good.

CJ went 4-6 last year with Joe Kennedy. 4-6 this year totally healthy would have been a success.

No matter how you feel towards this situation about team camps in the summer, you have to feel bad for this kid. Had the opportunity to watch him on film this past season when we had a similar opponent. Good athlete and player. Prayers out to him for the fastest recovery possible.
From everything I have seen and heard, he's just a good kid too, and comes from a good family. My prayers are going out for him.

Thank you for the prayers--they're are needed! There is a lot to be thankful for--no head injury, wasn't paralyzed, didn't lose the foot, and didn't have to perform surgery right there on the field. Thankful to all the coaches, trainers, emts, doctors, and nurses. The trainer went beyond her job to help Alex and his parents! Please keep him in your prayers! Thanks to the friends/opponents' prayers and thoughts!

I already advised AB not to come back for football at all, still I know he wants to help his team. Plus--for the 1st time in several years--he's actually excited about the basketball season. We now know it is a very serious break and tearing of ligaments/tendons/bones, just want to get completely healthy.
There are 3 prospects--Garret Taylor, Drew Patterson, and Noah Southern. Southern might be the best choice, but he's never played QB before. He has a strong arm and used to be RB. I don't know why they didn't put him at RB last year when Ray went down. IMO if they had him at RB last year--CJ would have had a winning record. He played LB last year, should've been on offense.

IsIsn basketball expected to take a step back this year? Yeah I don't think it is good or desirable to bring back a QB at the end of the season. I also think they would have had a few more wins last year with Kennedy at RB and Baker at QB.

Yes--I also think you're right about Kennedy RB/Baker QB. It was just Southern was a great offensive player from 7th thru 9th grade.
A new basketball coach and playing more as a team seems to have gotten the kids more excited. Lehman was one of top two WR--chose not to play football so he can concentrate on basketball.
