Coaches throw punches after Parkway North/MICDS game

Bad examples? How about this guy!

Anybody know or heard any details about what lead to this? A really bad example to the student athletes and fans in my opinion.

MICDS’ assistant coaches have been pretty excessive in their celebrations on the sidelines during and after home games all season. It’s been a point of contention multiple times as their stands are all located behind the home bench. It was a particularly chippy game vs Parkway North given it was during the postseason and the officials didn’t take control of the situation early, and the talking bled from MICDS’ coaches to their players talking on the field. The officials weren’t very balanced in how they called penalties which just fed the fire. Words were exchanged during the postgame handshakes and then fists flew. Racial slurs were audible from the MICDS coaches and players directed toward Parkway North. Once the fight started, anyone involved could no longer claim moral superiority. No one was injured significantly and the officials didn’t appear to sanction either team.

There was almost punches thrown after the end of the Hannibal and Westminster game. A Westminster player was frustrated and went after a Hannibal player but I couldn't tell if there was punches thrown. I know there was alot of pushing, grabbing, and baffling.

I seen a post on Facebook from a Parkway North parent. They heard MICDS players saying racial slurs to the Parkway North players and the referee's didn't do nothing about it.

MICDS plays Saturday afternoon at Hazelwood East. Assuming this is true (no reason to believe otherwise) I would not recommend MICDS open their traps there AT ALL..............just saying.

...the officials didn’t appear to sanction either team.

It's not the officials' responsibility to "sanction" anyone. They are to stay out of the fray to avoid touching anyone and/or getting hurt while observing the lunacy and taking names and numbers of the participants. The crew leader would then file a report with MSHSAA who would then be responsible for any "sanctions" against team(s)/player(s)/coach(es).

But... will the officials follow through with that???
The last several games I've been at [football AND basketball] where seriously bad behavior was displayed the answer has become off-setting penalties. Always. There seems to be a FEAR of making a tough call. If a kid throws a punch? Dollars to donuts? A kid from the opposing school is getting an off-setting penalty even if there is no retaliation.
I don't want the officials' job ... I get it. I just think this behavior thrives in environments where there is less accountability. I totally agree that EVERYONE plays a part too. Right back to what the kids aren't learning at home.
Just once this season I'd like to see bad behavior truly and boldly called out.

Awards for bad behavior apparently

Kinda why my posts about cTOWN/cARTHAGE are typed this way. The kids/players and majority of the fans were just excited to finally beat the CARDS in 07. Of course it had to be districts... As the fans stormed their field there were a few parents really throwing the trash at the WEBB players. One rather large woman, mother of one of cTOWNs key players went as far as the WEBB buses and the racial crap she was hollaring deserved a boot in her ass.. I have a lot of friends from there and respect the few cTOWN posters on here but will never forget that night. The loss sucked but those few adults and the disgusting behavior towards those young men will never be forgotten.

According to Buha, they didn’t observe anything, so I don’t expect any report submitted to MSHSAA to do any good. It’s the officials’ responsibility to address issues that occur during the game to prevent drama that can happen AFTER the game. The officials during the game were more concerned with making sure all the “Poindexter Fontleroy IVs” at MICDS were given the opportunity to keep the game close during the game, and then hightailing it out of there to avoid having to deal with the aftermath from allowing MICDS’ coaches and players to taunt PN’s team with slurs, to see anything. I don’t expect 70 year old referees to break up fights when they’re being paid $100 per game. I also don’t expect them to pretend they aren’t responsible for controlling the tone, pace and outcome of what happens on the field.

That's pretty AWFUL.
We all need to be the kind of people who would shut that right down from our OWN FANS!!! I would.
It really can happen anywhere. It can be stopped anywhere too.

You sound biased, if not butt hurt.

To be expected, I suppose.

Good question. IF they were on the field AFTER the game long enough to observe the teams line up for handshakes - which is when the altercation occurred....they would have seen it and and been expected to reported it.

However, game officials in most sports I've been associated with leave the playing surface rather quickly after the game. Once they leave the court and the visual confines of the game, their immediate jurisdiction ends.

If they are made aware of the situation and return to the field to witness the altercation, they certainly can and should take notes and prepare a report to submit to MSHSAA.

I have no firsthand knowledge of the events with respect to the officials, though, in the MICDS/PN game.

I hear you, and you may well be right. In my (many) experiences at the high school level, the person that is observed transgressing against another is retaliating to something that has already been transgressed against. Thus, two PFs.

Your very last sentence above is perhaps the most telling thing of all. And, I couldn't agree with you more about what is (not) happening at "home" with many of today's high school aged kids - athletes or not.

Lol. That's no lie. Easy to sling racial slurs on the corner of Warson and Ladue and get away with it. Not so much at the corner of Lewis and Clark and 270 in Spanish Lake.

and in this day and age there's always something caught on cell phone camera

doesn't show the before and quality is a bit jumpy.... a PWN asst. coach was obviously upset about something. refs were on the field the whole time looks like.

WOW! First, all of that pandemonium over high school football. The parents and coaches letting loose like animals in a cage throwing F bombs and threatening violence is shameful. I can only shake my head in disbelief people are still capable of acting this way.

Secondly, based only on the video, kudos to the officiating crew for staying on the field and effectively diffusing a situation that looked like it could have gotten much much worse.

I'm certain now that a report will be filed to MSHSAA and there will be action taken. How it affects MICDS and this week's game remains to be seen.

Holy smokes, what a cluster. What are people thinking? The entitlement and insecure egos on that field and in the stands is truly amazing. smh

My butt feels fine. I was lounging on it when Lutheran North beat MICDS the last two years. Their tears were especially delicious on my nachos when they got their hearts ripped out at home this season after pulling the same stunts they did vs PN. This was all after Buha and MICDS refused to allow MIZZOU’s coaches to land their helicopter on campus because Odom wasn’t recruiting any of MICDS’ players. I bet you didn’t expect THAT.

Geez....and to think I thought the only arguments at MICDS were the likes of when someone door dinged Winthrop Wellington’s BMW in the parking lot.

Interestingly, I'm seeing reports that this game has been moved to the turf field at SLUH.

Unfortunately Dan this did happen. While over the last 12-13 years 3peat and I may not have always agreed on everything...I could always respect his opinions. I didn't have a dog in the fight for Carthage that year but we had some parents who were over the top and out of control...this rivalry has taken some interesting turns over the years but some of our fans reaction were over the top that year.

And as for the officals, not sure what happened during the game. When the closing whistle blows, if there are no penalties, they are instructed to leave the field at once. Fist fights by coaches are to be handled by school administration.

Ya, I'm familiar with official's jurisdiction and administrative protocol before, during and after contests.

If something happens while they are on the field (and that includes while they are jogging off the field after the game, but see something happen), then whatever does happen is still within their jurisdiction. And, they are to respond and report according to rules and the official's handbook as published by MSHSAA/NFHS.

Whether they do or not, is a different conversation.

I can't get the volume to work so without hearing anything all I am noticing is how fancy and expensive that small stadium looks!

I have not been on their campus but have friends that have and took video and the whole campus is fancy and expensive. But for $28,200 in paid tuition a year, I'd hope they have nice facilities.

Apparently, Lisa Lyle has dealt with this before.

I'm not sure if MICDS deserves the reputation it is developing, but the best way for an institution to shed itself of a problematic reputation isn't through internal investigations, strong denials or self-serving written statements, but through an external, independent investigation.
