Coaches or Media All State teams

Are you serious? Coaches! I would bet that most people voting on Media All State never played football before!

Selecting all star teams on a statewide level comes down to debate skills and respect. There is a media representative from each district area that states the case for players in their area. If a team or player doesn't receive honors, ask the media representative from your area why not. It is up to him/her to represent their players and try to get them on the all-state team.

KCHI, who were the media reps from each district ? I'm thinking the coaches may watch more actual video of the players.

I believe you just answered the question of this post....

Republic gets 2
Belton gets 2
Nixa gets 2

Carthage goes 4-0 against these teams? (Beat Nixa twice)

Carthage gets 0??

Opinion? But you can't act or sing! So basically you write a blog and depending how many other people can't do those things, then you have an audience!

In 2012, Maryville clocked 10 or 11 of 15 games meaning the starters were out usually before the half and sometimes sooner. That has a tendency to cut a players stats at least in half compared to other players. And since the media mostly goes by stats, and a coach actually sees the players involved, I really lean towards the coaches choices but the media is the one that they go by.

I should of went with my first instinct and kept quiet on this subject. Oh well. First off, I have sat in on all the NW all district selection meeting a few times. Yes I know how that works. No, I'm not giving details. If you want to help select, become a sports writer or sportscaster and get involved. I have never been the district representative to the state selection meeting, nor do I want to.
Every post season honors selection meeting IS based on opinion. People give their opinion via a vote and there you have it. At the meetings I have attended, discussion is held. I would think the same thing occurs on the state level.
Why did a team with 11 wins not get an all state selection? I have no idea, I suggested asking your area meeting rep. Don't know who that is? Ask your local newspaper sports writer.
Chillicothe had one selection to the Coaches all state, and one person to the Media all state. It was not the same person. It's opinion. The opinion of the coaches was different than the opinions of the media.
Finally, one thing that you no longer will see is one player being all state at two positions in the same year on the Media team. This used to happen but hasn't for several years. My own personal opinion is that if you have that rare athlete who's (for example) the best running back and the best defensive back in the state in their classification, then he should be honored as such. But that's just my opinion.
Congrats to those honored, condolences to those that weren't and Merry Christmas to all.

The question was who's opinion matters more? The Coach's All State matters to football players, hands down. The media is for the media!

And you know this how? Have you asked each football player in Missouri, or is this just a guess on your part?

I have been a part of the Coaches Selection meeting many times and I will say that the coaches in the room do a good job of selecting deserving players.

However, the weakness in the Coaches selection process is that for a player to be eligible for selection, their school must belong to the Missouri Football Coaches Association.

I understand why this is required and I fail to understand why some coaches/schools choose to not pay dues and become part of the Asscociation, however it happens yearly.

There have been multiple years when outstanding players, who would have easily been selected, were left off the Coaches All State Team simply because their school had not paid their membership dues prior to the selection process.

That is a very intelligent question! Well played! No, I have not spoke to every single one, and I said most, not all! Media selection is for the media, coaches all state is meaningful!

I would say coaches without a doubt. An example: a few years ago we had a Punter get first team Class 4 Punter on the media team. The problem with that? We are Class 3.
As far as becoming a sportscaster and getting involved.. Its not as easy as that. There are plenty of sportscasters that have done this for decades that have no say.

To each their own! Agree to disagree! The question was simply which one is more valid. I was just simply stating Coaches, as they have first hand knowledge of the game! Not too many football or former football players taking Journalism classes!

If some players are left off because a school is not in the MFCA then it does hurt some of the credibility of the coaches selection.

At the end of the day if either select a player then that player is probably deserving. I think the coaches would definitely do a better job of selecting deserving players on teams that don't necessarily go deep in the playoffs.

Doesn't the coaches poll reserve x number of spots for your team depending upon how far you got in the playoffs?
