Buckmaster had the offensive players step out at the 1 yd line so he could give the defensive starters a chance to score a touchdown. Did it multiple times against McDonald County last night. The ultimate in disrespect of an opponent. A true disgrace!

I'm not surprised some would feel this way. The players seemed to love it though after working hard for Buckmaster and their school the past four years.

A quick reminder that debate this past week went back and forth about whether these 1/8 and 2/7 games should even be played. CJ did what they needed to do and had some fun with it too.

CJ's varsity beat McDonald County 42-0 in about 20 minutes of game clock before liberally subbing with younger players while Mac left their starters in the second half (I have no problem with that FWIW). Seems to me that giving a senior linebacker (Duley), a senior WR (Cupp), a senior backup QB (Christy), and a senior fullback (Wall) touches from the one yard line was just fine, and while the Mustangs gave up lots of long plays with ghost tackles at the 1, they also couldn't stop the 1-yard dives or short passes either.

For those who don't know, McDonald County is a bigger school than CJ.

I wouldn't worry about it. What goes around comes around

What was the score when this happened the first time in the game? Thanks.

I have a military background, so ... in my opinion the team to wave the white flag is the loser not the winner.

If a losing team wants to quit all they have to do was take a knee the next time they got the ball and I’m sure everyone would have gotten the message. If CJ had continued afterwards then we could all complain.

Bottom line, if you want to quit then quit. But don’t keep playing and then cry because the other team continues to play.

I see this more in basketball where all you have to do is walk the ball across half court and stand with it if you want to end the game. Instead the team down by 53 continues to chuck 3s, then parents cry when the other team keeps playing as well.

Honestly, Im actually in favor of it being like a summer league game or a boxing match where the refs blow the whistle and just call it. You already have the turbo clock and that’s not even enough so let’s just leave it up to the refs to just call it a game at their discretion. If it’s fourth quarter and you’re down by 50 the refs can stop the fight and you can save face.

Heck they can call it in the first quarter for all I care. Game over. Go get better and come back next year.

You're right. Mac County should have just started kneeling it out when they were losing.

I'm from a military background as well, but forgive me if I don't share your logic.

What's that saying..."size don't matter".

If your coach wanted the senior linebacker, senior backup qb and senior fullback to score, IMO, he should have done it within the framework of the regular offense - i.e. let the linebacker tote the ball down to the one and punch it in. Downing the ball at the one yard line, so another kid can punch it in, is kinda bush league IMO.

Some coaches use blowouts to let underclassmen get valuable reps for the next year; some use it to give seniors a reward for their efforts...personally, I'm a fan of the former, but under either scenario, I'm not a fan of downing the ball at the 1, unless you're going to take a knee on the ensuing play.

I would relish watching Webb do this to them. Cosmic football karma.
Your hatred of Carl Junction is fascinating. And yet you kiss up to Webb City so frequently.

My guess is this: jealousy of CJ for the respect they get in the media polls, and not wanting to have a message board full of Webbies going after you.

Thankfully, I've moved on from caring about any of your opinions as you are blinded to any open-mindedness and instead want to put all of your stock into history and Calpreps predictions, rather than studying what is really happening and what the future could truly hold.

Btw, Webb won't do this "step out at the one on purpose" thing against CJ. I can see them taking a knee at the end of the game, but then again they've seen CJ do that too against them within the past year. These two programs are much closer in quality now than they've been in more than two decades (or three or forever or whatever).

All assuming these two get past the district semis.

You are telling me that CJ would have scored but stepped out at the one-yard line to allow another teammate get the score? Why is this a deal?

Good to see peat got another username

No, I didn't like the plays. I would have been more understanding if it was for the couple of seniors who get almost no playing time (2 minutes at end of games). But, it was another chance for Mac to stop CJ.

Here's quotes from a player in Joplin Globe:
"I definitely wasn't expecting it."
"So it was a big deal (to score)...It shows how much (Buckmaster) cares about us and actually sees us as people and not just players."

I still didn't like it.
Hats off to Mac---their fans and band was there for the team.
For those of you who only watch football and no other high school sports---I assure you the other Jasper County schools have no room to criticize. And sometimes your just fulfilling the circle of karma.

So are the people on the other side of the field who you toyed with to play this cat and mouse game to manufacture this feel good story for yourselves. Typical self absorbed, self promoting behavior we should be accustomed to with Buck.

Jealousy of CJ? Unwarranted ratings? Yes. Please. That will be proven during the games. Calpreps adds objective facts to otherwise idiotic opinion based on limited guesswork. Yes, I appreciate objective information that was 91% accurate this past week. Throw out the games < 5 points and it is about 95.

I know, that's what I thought, if it was for the Seniors always on the bench--maybe. Sorry didn't mean to drag the good kid (quoted) into this. I just didn't like this.

I could see this if it happened late in the game when the game was already out of reach. But the game was 0-0 when they did it the first time.

game was out of reach when the coin was tossed.

IF they wanted the boys to carry the football they should have put them in when it was first down at about the 30 and let them earn a TD.

Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa! Sorry, I just finished crieing at all the butt hurt on hear.

ROFL!

You can't beat us. So you mock us. Gocha. STAMP IT!

Maybe Mac County should get better and learn to play defense? In the words of my college OC: "I don't get paid to give a F**K about the other team's feelings."

Next 3 wins for the Bulldogs:

1-West Plains
2-Webb City
3-Platte County

STAMP IT!

sounds like webb fans are always crying about something. Every single year.

I've seen WC onside kick up 35 in the 4th quarter....just saying.

The random onside kick by a playoff caliber team when 'not needed' is, well, needed. Teams who play later into the fall need to execute plays occasionally in a less close game so they are ready to make that call when it might be crucial in a bigger game. Not the same as doing this several times in one game. Buckmaster has been called a lot of things through the years ... even a good coach. 'Classy' is just not one of them. It was all legal. Just don't be surprised if you make yourself an island by being hard to be around.

Let's see this post was started at 5:20 pm Saturday probable after watching and studying the game on film all day, and buy a person who tends to follow WC football threads....
