Can anyone tell me how Blue Springs South drew the short straw and got put in that district?

Probably just because they are a mile or two closer than BS to the rest of the teams in the district.
Overall district 4 is still better but Francis Howell might be better than anyone in Dist 4 this year so maybe it is the short straw, this year.

As RHCF inferred, they are the easternmost school of the KC area class 6 schools, albeit by a very short distance over Blue Springs.

Agree with your assessment of district 4 and Howell. I have been paying attention to Howell for the last few years and they have raised their level of play. Big, strong, fast kids who work hard and are well coached. They have been just short of championship caliber but you are right they may be in the process of earning a shot this year.
Wow. Just because they are a few miles closer they have to play against STL schools and could possibly travel like 3 hours to play a district game....depending on where they get seated correct?
Reminds of a line from movie Rat Race. John Cleese was trying to explain that the race had started to everyone and that so far Mr """""" is winning because he is closest to the door.
This is one of the most conspicuous cases but sometimes if you have 9 teams in one area of the state someone has to move and I think it makes less sense to move Kickapoo because of Joplin.
