Troubling trend continued last night. No fire, no energy coming out in the first quarter. Excellent second and passable third quarter but GEEZ DeSoto is about two brothers. Nobody seemed to key on either (spy on the very mobile QB????) which was beyond belief. The biggest trend indicating you may be right is when ADVERSITY comes. For particularly the last three seasons they seem, for some weird reason, to run the other way every time it happens (#5 injury as K was driving late). A close, exciting game fell apart leading to the 17 point blowout.Well, someone's getting fired.

NOW they host Tonka who likely is thrilled for the opportunity at revenge (there was a very ugly incident in the second quarter of that game likely neither team has forgotten). AGAIN very, very hard to get back up for a game you won in a blowout weeks back. These have a funny habit of REVERSING.
That was beyond crazy. The kid simply lost control. Hopefully he learned a huge lesson...........Gee I wonder if Tonka will boot stomp a Kearney player on their sideline again? No charges pressed, huh?
It was a multiple player incident, mostly involving one K player getting boot stomped by multiple W players. The fine lads just wanted to make a statement. I think they are members of the Future Orange Jumpsuit Wearers Society? That was beyond crazy. The kid simply lost control. Hopefully he learned a huge lesson...........
The main part of it was out of my sight range I just know one kid got kicked out of the game. Anyway back to FB how do you see this one turning out and is #5 for KTown playing????It was a multiple player incident, mostly involving one K player getting boot stomped by multiple W players. #5 is the number two receiver on the team this year--and hasn't had a big impact until the last couple games. He had 64 of the 413 yards against Tonka the first time, and the RB and the TE had the rest. K put in subs in the 3Q, and could basically run at will. #5 isn't needed for that. So I see 47 - 14ish or 47-21 ish type game. Tonka D-backs are scared to death of the RB, who is pretty damned tough, and the big TE...the TE that face planted their D1 WR to the ground with a stiff arm on a 25 yard run.
#5 Is also a 3rd year starting QB, the inability to develop that position was a real issue with this staff. A win over Tonka merely extends the failed experiment another week - there would be a 0% chance of winning the district semifinal.
I agree about what I called the "find the seats on the bus" issues earlier this year but #10 is a GOOD QB. I think he's only a Soph, too.#5 Is also a 3rd year starting QB, the inability to develop that position was a real issue with this staff. The chance is NEVER zero but I would still put it at 5-10 percent. Smithville, as I think all know by now, has about as solid a D as has been seen in this area in many years then there is all that skill talent. The only team I could see knocking them off (chomping at the bit for this one) would be MICDS.#5 Is also a 3rd year starting QB, the inability to develop that position was a real issue with this staff. He was the starting QB going into his sophomore, junior and senior seasons. That means that the staff decided he was the guy each year, in their off-season program. He looked great as a frosh too. Clearly 5 is the most talented QB on the roster - as he was each of the past 2 seasons, but this staff couldn't develop/ fix the turnovers. The soph gives them the ability to beat the Ray south's, but no chance to compete with the likes of Smithville or PC. If that's what you aspire for the program to be, then by all means, you have your staff. You must not have watched from Week 2. He hasn't been the starter since then. They have a soph playing quarterback. Just catching you up. What other Class 4 team are you projecting will beat Smithville this year?
Maybe the Fighting Freds (MICDS). In saying that Hannibal has some darned nice wins this year (Helias Catholic may not win C5 but is a potential contender). What team in Class 4 will beat Smithville this year?

Who was the starting QB in the season opener for each of the last 3 years. What? #5 had about 20% of the passing yards last year. Dawson M., the senior, was the starter for almost all of the games--and had over 80% of the passing yards. The highest QB ratings of the past three years have been the soph this year, and the senior from last year.
And going back to a previous post...four of the all-state track athletes have accounted for 77% of the total yards this year... 56% from the two all-state discus throwers. I know...save it for the Track Forum.
Had the subject of Mark Thomas come up at the grand opening of I-70 Motorsports Park last spring. Odessa HS clubs ran all the concessions. One told me he may be retiring after this season. If so what a career! To answer your question, a QB that took about 20% of the snaps in 2020 and was a better receiver. And a QB that started a two games in 2021 and finished 1.5 games, then went back to receiver.
They beat Fort last year... LOL... just like they have four of the last six times they have played Fort. Fort is no gold standard...especially not at the beginning of the season. You live in the past. Newsflash..Platte County is now Class 5 and will be in a different Conference Division next year. Should they schedule Staley and Lee's Summit West next year as well?
Bring back Mark Thomas?

Who started the season at QB last year, joeyknowsfootball? Simple question.
The 2021 squad hasn't beaten anyone as good as Fort - gold standard or not, they couldn't beat fort this year

First game in 2020...versus FO last year. 9 of 11 for Meinert. QB rating of 137.7. So your definition of starter is the person who takes the first snap of the game, genius?

And varsity is about to have (if they win Friday night) a THIRD consecutive 5-5 season. HmmmmmSoph class undefeated as Freshmen. The Freshman class this year undefeated and turbo clocking most opponents, scoring 300 points and giving up 26. And 14 of those points were garbage time points by Smithville and Platte Count vs. 3rd string D. Junior Class was 8-1 as Freshmen. Hmmm?

Another year of joeyknows touting the greatness of the freshman class.... Maybe they should swap the frosh coaching staff with Gray & co The good news is the Kearney gets a football coach, there is talent and it shouldn't be a prolonged build.
Getting the feeling you are lobbying for us all to be more patient and that it will all turn around in the next year or two????? After the blowout loss to DeSoto you said someone was getting fired. Who????? Inquiring minds want to know. Not so much touting...as just putting down the facts. Lopsided blowouts on Smithville by the Freshmen the past two years. Undefeated teams. Excellent all-state athletes in other sports. Just the FACTS...
And the 5, the rb and LA kicked ass as freshmen too. But 5 wasn't developed in 3 years as a varsity qb. This staff is Smithville's biotch- keep y'all around and the frosh will learn what it's like to get dominated. Not so much touting...as just putting down the facts. I thought 2018 was their "watershed". I think Smithville is here to stay. The varsity staff there is outstanding.Yep... The RB is still kicking ass by the way... #3 YPC in the Metro at 167.7/game. Why is he doing so good? .
And I have never been on this staff. I have only been on college staffs. It seems like LA did not play for how long--a couple years off? Your fixation on the 5 is strange. Again, I am looking at the stats, and you are talking about someone that hasn't been a primary starter since three years ago.
I don't care if you get Bosko, Mox and Kane to coach them, the current Freshman won 30-8 over Smithville (with 8 being garbage points with less than a minute left on the third string) will not be losing in two years or three years to Smithville. That classes is more loaded with athletic talent than any K class in the past 15 years. Smithville has had a nice little run. But this is their watershed year. They managed to have a team that might be the 5th or 6th best Kearney has had in the last 20.
Congrats to them. I like them. But the fun will be over. They better win it this year, or again they will be the only Highway 92 team out of Excelsior, PC, and Kearney, to NOT have won the big one.
They are losing A LOT. Their RB, their top two receivers, their five players that were 1st Team All-Conference last year. Crim is a huge loss. Stud player.I thought 2018 was their "watershed". I think Smithville is here to stay. The varsity staff there is outstanding.
Smithville's JV was undefeated. When the outstanding SR WR went down with an injury there were 2 Soph. receivers to pick up the slack. The back-up QB is a Soph. and outstanding... coaching staff recognizes talent and uses it as it should be. They aren't going anywhere soon.
I don't think so. Saving him for playoff run.
