As of today give the Kearney-Smithville winner about an 80 percent chance to emerge from it. As for that game will have a lot to say next week. Gotta see how each fares tonight and not talking about the results which should be a given. A few years back in a blowout win the KDogs lost one of their top players to injury and it affected (think it was the middle Davis kid in 2014 but not swearing to it) the rest of their playoff run.Top, I’d love to hear your prediction as to who emerges from this district.
Need a much crisper, higher completion percentage passing game as well. Looking back on a week ago there were 2-3 very near misses (wish I was on the home side to see if the last one was in bounds as most of the K fans seemed to think it was). The best play was in the 4th quarter "urgency" drive when they hit Connery over the middle for about 20 yds. Need to see more of that...........If Kearney equals the time of possession with Smithville, they win. Then they beat Excelsior Springs for the championship.

It seemed like Kearney wanted to use Connery as a decoy early. Unless the O Line holds up that is not a quality strategy. Given they have two what I would call possession WRs I am still surprised K has not shown a short passing game much this year. When defenses cheat up to stop Connery that middle 10-15 yds. downfield is wide open and just begging for short/intermediate crossing routes. Of course that depends on those WRs getting off the line well which also doesn't consistently happen.Well, missed 20+ passes on first down need to go. Lots of missed passes. No eating up of the clock, thus the enormous time of possession for Smithville, who really didn't move the ball well at all. Get their TOP down to 22 to 24 min, and Kearney wins like a boa constrictor.
Was told the injury bug has already hit the dawgs this week at practice.Well, missed 20+ passes on first down need to go. Lots of missed passes. Their JV should be able to handle Marshall just don't want to hear about any longer term injuries. As I said even way back in Week 1 when I was so positively surprised by them overall this team definitely lacks quality depth. Was told the injury bug has already hit the dawgs this week at practice.
This actually doesn't shock me at all. Would suspect the kids got worked very hard after losing on SR night to a next-door rival. Was told the injury bug has already hit the dawgs this week at practice.

Wow here we are already dissecting last week and looking forward to next............fingers crossed something crazy doesn't happen tonight.
I keep harping on it but this would require the O Line to consistently win at the LOS. Haven't seen that vs. the better defensive fronts (GV, SVille, Staley) K has faced this year.Think smash mouth Martyball. Field position game. Clock control. SV will maybe score 7-10

He didn’t average 4 per carry last week. 13 for 39 won’t get it done.Connery yards per carry near 4. Enough. Then short passing game. Old school

i agree with you but have my doubts that will happen.Well, Ah-Mu's 12 for 23 isn't going to burn clock. Those three and outs were a death sentence. Gotta burn clock and control field position as much as possible.
And he made most of those yards himself. SVille defenders were winning at the LOS all night. He didn’t average 4 per carry last week. 13 for 39 won’t get it done.
You have to be patient. 13 carries was not enough. Hog up and give him 25-35 carries. Wear them out. Then dice them up late.i agree with you but have my doubts that will happen.

Best analysis I've read all year! Spot on about the TE I don't even know who plays that position. Status quo leads to a worse score loss next Friday. I say what do they have to lose work plays to involve Connery out in space all night long...............then maybe the D won't tire out in the fourth and they can pull this one out.Unfortunately, this appears to be the case....won't affect getting past the Owls though. As for the Smithville rematch, it will come down to whether the Dogs OC makes adjustments. His OL isn't going to open holes vs that stacked Smithville D - he has to either get Connery out in space (Connery beat double coverage on that catch), or bring in some extra beef and pound it at Smithville. The TE position has been invisible all year, and the secondary receiver was completely ineffective in that game. IMO, status quo won't cut it.
I hate to say this but when Jones and his staff were here I knew about 100 percent what would happen in a rematch like is coming next week............Smithville would be in for it. With this (gotta be a bit patient but the offense is definitely under the microscope) second year staff I really have no idea what to expect. I sure do agree with justhafax the status quo won't cut it!I guess we have to watch Webb to see a coaching staff that knows how to win the big ones.

I have a feeling the Kearney coaching staff doesn't care where they play (Jones et al certainly never did) so my guess is they didn't want to expose him to injury and were hoping the D, which gave a great effort but wasn't as you pointed out good on third down, would carry them to victory. For me next Friday will be a very, very good test for this second year staff: not sure how our great fan base will react should they go down in the round of 32 two years in a row.............In fairness, the D didn't get Smithville off the field either - I think Smithville punted twice all night. Smithville took what the D gave them - those soft corners and controlled the clock. Connery in the return game could be the difference this time around too. I thought there was too much on the line last Friday to not have him on PRs. That game was for home field through districts - and making PC go through Smithville (and vice versa).

The fan base shouldn’t nor will they respond well if Kearney loses to Smithville twice and fails to advance to the district championship 2 years in a row. We are getting ahead of ourselves but this looming matchup next week is huge. I would bet this will be the Spectrum sports game of the week. At least it should be..............Final: Smithville 45, Kirksville 15. Smithville and Kearney will have Round 2 next week in Smithville.

Will Smithville be able to beat the Webb Slayers the second time?

Tonight the TE had one reception. It's a nice start.
Kearney spread the D out more last week and threw to the TE. I love their chances if they do this again. Will Smithville be able to beat the Webb Slayers the second time?

It is a key player from what I’m told. What about their injury this past week? I hear it is a bad one, and a major player on the Webb Slayer team will not be playing,
Was announced last night that it’s Rockhurst and Lee’s Summit West. Can’t say I blame them.I would bet this will be the Spectrum sports game of the week. At least it should be..............
They've already had both on in the regular season (Rock twice I believe). Was announced last night that it’s Rockhurst and Lee’s Summit West. Can’t say I blame them.
